Sunfire options

I'm starting a new daily setup. What would the be the best setup to go with as for how many and what size drivers? The box I have now is 2.3 cuft (outside dims) and I have enough space for 2 of those boxes + a lil more. The tough part is getting a whole 4 cuft box in there so if I were going over 3-3.5, I'd need two boxes. If I have two, what'll happen to the sound if I've got 2 10's firing into the back of another box, all firing to the rear, I could have one box to the otherside of the car a little and have both ports facing the rear or front? What about if the woofers are facing away from eachother? Cancellation causes? Does this also happen with a V-shaped baffle? I want more bass than one 12 will produce, and I don't want an odd # of woofers so three 10's is out, and I can't fit 2 12's or even 1 15, so how does 4 10's sound to you experts? I'm sure you'll tell me that 2 10's will atleast hit 150, but at what frequency, 50? I'd stick with a 35hz tuning. What kind of #'s could I expect from 4 ported 10's on +/- 6kw all facing the same way n' everything (the port wouldn't hit the back of the other box, I'd make the boxes a little short so I could have nothing in the way of the ports, maybe. Could I get better sound from taking out the back seat and throwing in 4 12's, 2 15's, 1 18, etc? I know what your thinking, I don't want to do the "work", well yeah, I just want to 'throw-in' these subs in boxes that I didn't make.

Why not one good 15 in a well built box? I have a J-Body as well, a Coupe Cavalier, and a 15 Mmats ProCast in a 3 cube box tuned to 34hz pushed by a Kenwood 9152D Monoblock. Only 1.8Kw, but it rattles the car like nothing else. I suppose you could go 2 15's, but for any decent 15 in a ported box, you're def looking at more than 4 cubes to get the most SPL (if that's what you're aiming for). This is just IMO.

Why can't you fit two 12's?

Whoa, missed that part...ueah, what's keeping you from 2 12's, or a 15? You don't have to loose your seat for that. Hell, I thought I saw an install once with 4 12's, and I'm sure I saw one with 3 12's in the trunk. My 15 fits well with space to boot, infact, I could add another in I lenthened the box some more and didn't mind loosing my whole trunk. Only downside is it takes at least 15 minutes to get out...although that could be a plus as well :P

The biggest box I can fit is through the back of the rear seat when it's folded. Max height for a box depends on the width because there's this metal thing coming down from the rear deck blocking slide-in space, I guess I could cut 90 degree corners out of it though, so that's why I'd rather use 2 boxes. I don't use the back seat, and I have no trunk space because of the 12". I'd rather have subs right behind me, I can fit a 42 x 32 x 16-18" box where the back seat is (roughly 10 cuft useable space without going over the window line)...I'll take a pic. What kind of difference in sound is there if the subs aren't in the trunk? How does it affect cabin gain? I'd rather use 2 good 15s than splurge on a bunch of needed power. I would use a single 15 but I doubt I could fit it in the trunk, even if the baffle is slanted. The max trunk height is 15 or 16" before it starts hitting stuff on the top, 4 10's would have more area/power anyways. I'm all for simplicity though, I would rather have 1 woofer & amp. If I was going to get a single 15 I'd buy the best damn woofer I could buy, probably a TSNS. Yeah, I can afford it.

What I'm really asking is at what point am I just wasting money from having too-many woofers, but then again I want longevity also. I'd rather not have it cranked all the time like the XXX was.

I have a sunfire aswell. At one point I removed the rear seat and built a system housing four 12" subs. It was supper loud when I wanted it to be but sounded nice and clear when I didn't want stupid loud. Plus I still had all my trunk. I accually miss that install.

I really liked have the set up in the rear seat because I never used the rear seat, and when I had to put stuff in my car I had the trunk to put everything in it. I've had my trunk full of stereo and a rear seat, and I hate it when it comes to needing a place to load stuff.

maybe 2 15s in a 45 degree slant box firing at the back tuned @ 32-35hz
4.5-5 cubes 1" thick

This is exactly what I'm saying. I never drive more than 1 person around at a time, and want the trunk back, who wants to have tools n crap right behind you all the time, or right beside your woofer? It's just not a clean look. How big was the box? It looks like I'll be using four 12"s. Something around $250-300 per, BL, Icon, ???? Looking for SQL, a lot output from 27 to 49hz. How many batteries should I get, two?

Each? I'd probably have to put them in a V-shape not an up/down slant because it's pushing 42" width, how wide would the port have to be for like...TF1s or something, maybe loaded BTLs? Do I want the port facing parallel with the woofers (on the front of the box)?
