I want to put a stereo in a 2000 Sunfire and it needs a T harness its a special wiring harness?? anyone know if these are hard to put in or what? I wanna do it myself b/c the harness is 80$ and installation is about the same.... anyone know anything

Orion_95 05-31-2004 11:33 AM

2000 doesnt need the t-harness.

Dereck Waller 05-31-2004 11:37 AM

yes it does, started in 2000 for Cav/Sunflower. <waits for multiple posts about it not being needed in any Cav/Sunflower>

Nissan Guy 05-31-2004 11:46 AM

no doubt, here's a can 'o worms just waiting to be opened!
IMO, the 2000 doesn't need the harness, but I wouldn't do it without it. You are going to need a kit and antenna adaptor, and cut a small section from inside the dash.
It's worth getting it done, but if you're feeling feisty, you can mount the deck in the driver quarter panel in the trunk.
Good luck!

Sounds like a pissing contest is about to start.

I was under the impression it was 01+

Dereck Waller 05-31-2004 12:29 PM

Best Kits and Metra's lit both indicate it started in 2000 for those models.

MR2NR 05-31-2004 12:54 PM

As does Scosche.

Orion_95 05-31-2004 01:00 PM

hmm...my bad.

Scheidl 05-31-2004 01:36 PM

we have had a t harness in here before but the car got broke into and it got wrecked.... we had the factory deck just in the trunk, i have an option of gettin a $130 harness with the chip and chimes attached and no factory deck, or go the other root and get the 75$ one and have the factory deck in the trunk!! This is just for listening purpose, no subs or anything, i dunno if i should tackle it myself tho? hard or easy?

Dereck Waller 05-31-2004 02:04 PM

It's one of the more complex deck installs out there.

jypy 05-31-2004 02:36 PM

It's not complex at all, you don't need the t harness or the chime module. Juste use the 70-2003 metra harness and not the "70-2003T", but you will have to find a ACC12V to turn on the HU. I don't know where all that BS come from but is not true that the deck control the air bag, ABS or anything else.

Let the pissing begin......bwahahaha...... I can only imagine someone on the jbody site who is "one of the most knowledgeable people there" posting something that is totally only to have people go around and believe it as gospel and then they provide links to it. Read the and understand that the manufacturers build these harnesses for a reason. What guarantee are you going to provide to the customer if something fails based on your recommendation of a link to a site to a post made by someone that you do not know? I for sure am not going to take that risk and I'm pretty sure that the other fine people here will agree.

Actually there are more knowledgable people on that forum than you might think. What makes you any more credible than them?

My 2000 Z24 works perfectly fine without the T-Harness and I have no doubt that it will continue to work as such.

This topic has been beat to death so lets leave it

Drive into a brick wall at 100mph and let me know if your airbag deploys

Of course your car is going to work.................

MR2NR 05-31-2004 07:04 PM

No, no we can't do that, the mop and bucket came out. I'm not saying that there may be more knowledgable people out there but there are definitely more idiots. (not saying one is you btw).

I guess what makes me more credible is the fact that I can provide a guarantee for a paying customer, all you buds on the forums cannot. Why is it that people cannot do a search and see this dead horse, wasn't it just last month that it rode by?

ChizzerZ24 05-31-2004 07:07 PM

Meh, I called Gm about it before I did mine they couldn't say yes or no forsure but the lady did say, everything will function as normal less ur chimes , unless ur talking escalades and high end stuff you don't really need it I've had it going for about 1 year no issues.....even the guys who do the stock systems for gm when they had to replace my deck said go ahead nothing special needed

</font>
The diagnostics GM did on my car last time I was at the dealership a( resistor for my heater fan went) indicates that everything in the electrical system is working perfectly normal ;)

Tim please show me proof that doing the install without the T-Harness causes problems. Just give me one incident of the airbags not deploying due to not running a T-Harness. My last diagnostics test would suggest that you are wrong.

As Dukk usually says though, paying the extra $ is probably worth it to make things easier for warranty on the electrical system and for avoiding hassle if you take your car to some dealerships. My warranty is up, so I see no reason for me to run a bulky line of wires to my trunk.

Tim Baillie. 05-31-2004 08:57 PM

^^^

Your right, just cause your little Jbody forum says that it is not needed that must make them the authority on this subject, who are we all to argue about it
