Tares on subwoofer rubber
 

I have 2 old JL subwoofers and I've noticed that one has tares in the rubber around one of them.

I can't explain it well so here's a picture I've created with my paint skills

I've read that rubber cement and silicone are too acidic. Is there another solution?

how old are the subs?

are these butyl rubber surrounds or foam surrounds.. If they are foam you can replace the foam quite easily by your self with refoam kits of have someone fix them. All depends if they are worth fixing.

rubber surrounds? try Goop! it is my new miracle glue!
silicone is crap in my opinion.. for almost any purpose...

i've repaired many rubber surrounds with rubber cement with no problems to date...still have a pair of old Alpines from the late 80's that i repaired then(screwdriver accident)...and yes they still work, and the repair is still holding.

all u need is gasket maker from canadian tire, takes care of all holes in surrounds.

That's what I've used in the past. The black stuff (or blue). Worked perfectly. A lil in the crack along with some in-behind to reinforce. :smilie_da

I'v got the white surround dampener from Prosound..it works well for surround repair

wondering if inner tube patch would work too!

Ya the RTV will work great Black or Blue .
