Sorry to threadjack... However, I am curenttly using 2 different 'caps' and planning on adding the last(older one) and would like some opinions.

All three are stinger --

one is a older 1 farad plain(no readout)
another newer 1 farad with digital readout
the last is a 5 farad hybrid w/readout

The hybrid is currently on the sub amps after the fuseblock
The digital is on the mid/highs amp after the fuseblock
I was going to add the old cap on the 0 gauge running from the battery and installing it before the 1 into 2 fuseblock that then goes to the other caps and then the amps.
I know the upgrade I could use the most, but the big 3 is gonna cost a bundle. Look up changing the alternator on a Pontiac Montana SV6... there's rocking the engine forward to access the alt...
or... take apart the front passenger suspension and bring it out through the wheelwell,..WTF

Anyhow, how would you arrange them ppl? Use them? take out?

if it is a thread-jack we need to get back on topic so be it !

I think the initial response was a good one "why do you think you need a capacitor?" If you have an overloaded electrical system it wont help, if you have a weak charging system (alternator) it wont do much good, if you have a bad battery it wont help much if at all. If you have a sloppy voltage regulator it will help, if you just need an extreemly brief shot of 'power' it may be ideal.

capacitors are an expensive fix compared to a 2nd lead acid battery! you can do the big 3 for a handful of dollars (it is just changing wires out) dont tell me it is expensive because it isnt compared to caps and batteries.

Doing an alternator swap is a big step and often frustrating... try and avoid it unless needed

I think understand a bit more, thanks.
When I mentioned that I can't swap the alternator, what I was getting at but I didn't mention is, I can't even get at the wires for the big 3 swap. The alt is up under the cowl and there is no wires visable from any angle we can see/or reach to, which is only the top and the pully side. Can't reach up that far to feel from underneath either. So the expense I mention was for getting anything done on the van with that alt... I'm stymied.
Really man, check out the sv6 engine bay/alt location... I ran across one thread in another forum where a GM Tech said these vehicles and the engine bays are the only reason he still has a job!!!!

Seems like we're gonna have to pay a mechanic to swap dang wires!!
And if he's in there anyhow, outta change to a 200amp alt. I guess thats why I mentioned the cost factor.

I'm up for ideas to save money of course!! Any tips and tricks on my situation?
