is there big difference in dual chamber box's?
 

i have a dual 12'' sub box but its all one chamber, would a box that has dual chambers make a difference? can i ruin the subs if im pounding them with the single chamber? the subs are idmax's running off a sundown saz2000

Once the box was dsigned proerly for the two sub and all settins are good, then you have no problem.

The disadvatage of having single chamber for 2 or more subs, is that if one sub have a problem or blows and you are not aware, then the remaining sub or subs will be working in a larger box than recommeded and may be damaged if the volume is turned up too high.

Also, you cannot use the box while one sub is out for repairs.

oh okay nice. thank you again. and for some reason my idq v1's hit way more notes than the idmax v3's. i know idq's are supposed to be more precise but not by that much especially the v1's.. almost makes me want to sell the max's.
and the max's keep putting my amp in friggin protection mode, they must be inefficient

The IDMaxs are quite efficient woofers and should be just as accurate as the v1 q's.

did you just throw them into the same box as the IDQ's?

sounds like you simply need more power. efficient or not, the IDMaxes can handle twice that of the IDQ's.

if your amp is going into protect mode, either your voltage is too low, its over heating (most likely poor ventilation or too low an impedance), or it could have clipping protection on it ...shouldn't really have anything to do with the subs

right now i just have 1 in a saled box about 1.5 cf. its running off a sundown that can handle over 2000 watts rms. itsset up for 2 ohms so its only getting 1000 watts. but to get the same impact from the idmax's compared to the idq's i have to turn it up to the point where my dash lights are dimming. even my jbl p1224's in a sealed box had my wipers bouncing off my windshield and no dimming, no clipping or protection mode. im just saying it seems like it needs more than 1000 watts of power to keep up with subs that need 500 watts or less

are you comparing a single Max to two IDQ's?
because if so, regardless of the power it can withstand, its still 12" vs 24". That jump in cone area will make a significant difference.

Your amp should not be going into protect mode. Providing you sub really is 2ohm, its not the sub causing the problem. This should be your first step to figuring out what is wrong.

no, im just saying right now i have 1 in a box, but even when i have two max's hooked up the impact on higher notes arent up to par with the old ass idq's. maybe i need a smaller box i dont know. and your saying if i get a beter power supply it can help keep the amp out of protect? because today my rpms were dropping when i turned up the music

The id max is a sound quality sub and in the correct box will hit any note that the idq can hit, and with authority on that amp. And no, it dont need more than 1000 watts rms, something is wrong with either the way you wire up the speaker, some settings or simply the wrong box for the idmax.

I have no idea what your power supply is like.

What I do know is that your amp should not be going into protect. A weak power supply can potentially cause this, so it could be the problem, sure.

As stated above that sub should hit every note, and with the power that amp can put out, it should do it with authority.

The box could be an issue, but your focus should be on why that thing is cutting out.


Recheck the impedance of your sub, measure your voltage free of and while under load, ensure good ventilation, don't go turn happy on any bass boost dial.

It does sound like you have charging issues though if your cars RPMS are dropping, headlights dimming, etc.
