Thunderform '03 Dakota.......SQ sub???

Ok, I'm going to have to go with the MTX Thunderform for my '03 Dakota ext. cab. (link...http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/manualsQuickInstall/thunderforms/DDXP201_specs.pdf) I have narrowed the sub choices down to two.

1-IDQ10D4V.2

2-JL10W1v2

What do you think, or better yet, what have you heard??

FYI, the rest of the system will consist of eclipse, focal, audison, and morel.

Thank
Shawn

then why not go with a focal or morel

why are you sold on the 10" sub?
out of the two i think i would go with the jl13w1v2 or JL10w1v2

That's all the thunderform can hold.

Having sold numberous MTX Thunderform boxes and knowing full well this particular vehicle and the shallow mounting depth of the enclosure to go in it, one cannot just choose a sub and drop it on in there. The actual MTX box with the MTX subs sound surprisingly good in that vehicle, take a serious look at them as well.

why not make one yourself for the sub you like ?

I know you can't drop any sub in the t-form, that's why I did some research. The MTX has a mounting depth of 4 5/8", the JL has a smaller depth of 4 3/8", and the IDQ has the largest depth at 5 1/4". All magnet diameters are within 1/2".

The JL also has the smallest driver displacement at .025 ft3. MTX at .03 ft3. and IDQ at .05 ft3.
So the JL will leave the most amount of airspace in the box, and we know it'll fit. My dilema is that I know the IDQ's are the best sounding speaker of the bunch (given the proper enclosure) But will they operate properly in the thunderform?

I guess I didn't ask the question right in my first post.

Extra cash is going into better components. T-form $200.00
Custom box $600.00-700.00

I cannot build myself, time and space limitations.

MTX thunderforms come with the subs,

so since neither of those woofers with give you any extra performance over what the MTX will, Why upgrade?

Unless you are going to gain a significant advantage by switching woofers, the MTX thunderform is designed to work best with its own driver.

You are probably thinking of the BassSlammer and not the Thunderform. BassSlammer is an unloaded version of the Thunderform (just the box) and the maximum dimensions of the sub you can fit in there can be found on the website http://www.bassslammer.com/images/prodMagMountDDXP20.gif
