Time for a change?
I'm currently in the market for some new subs.
As of right now I am running 4 Kicker L7 10's Power is from a pair of Kicker KX1200.1's strapped making around 2.8k Box is 5-6ft^3 sealed. Ideally what I would like to do is drop down to a pair of 12's or an awsome single 15" I'm looking for a great SQL driver, I want to be able to pound out the bass, but still be able to enjoy the sublties of the music. Current drivers I am looking at RE MX12, DD3512, DD9515 etc. Vehicle - 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV I am doing consistant 143-144dB I'd like to get closer to the 150dB range What do you guys suggest I do? |
get an 18" :)
A ported box for and 18 is going to be massive
not to mention i won't be able to rear fire it as its too tall |
Change the box. You've got capable subs already. Although you could put more power to them I would suggest a new enclosure first and see where that gets you. Ditch the sealed design.
Your box is WAY TO BIG. Those subs need to be in a 1.25 cube box each PORTED, tuned at about 34hz, it will be LOUD and play very good.
try porting your current setup
Personally I like sealed boxes more, for listening to music. I believe it sounds more crisp and clear, but thats just my ears. Maybe building a box to spec might work.
yah those subs love a smaller ported box! build one they will hammer
orion subs are the shiznit
but sealed soudns better

So I'm going to be rebuilding my install over the spring.
I'm really thinking of ditching the 4 L710's and going to a nice pair of 12s I should be just as loud if not louder with a pair of 12's anyhow. I want some decent SQ but I want the ablity to get loud when I want (145dB+) Currently I am looking at the following drivers: RE Audio MX12 D2 RE Audio SX12 D2 Fi Audio Fi.Q12 D2 (with the BP Power option) Fi Audio Fi.BL12 D2 (with the following options: P Chamfer, Flatwind, Daily) I've modelled the MX12 and the Fi.Q12 (4ft^3 @ 33hz for both pairs) RE MX12's: http://www..ca/cca/subs/2REMX12.jpg Fi.Q12's: http://www..ca/cca/subs/2FIQ12.jpg I'm just wonder what you guys all think of my sub choices? If you have any serious suggestion, I'm all ears. I'm also trying to regain some of my trunk. Thanks |
why not make a good box for the subs you have
? |
I'm also thinking of competing a little this year.
And having 4 tens, I'll pretty much have my ass handed to me going to a pair of 12 would make it a little easier. Cosmetically 2 12's will fit and look much better. |
if you decide to goto 12" RE MT's i have one in the forsale section. if your competing youll be happier with mt's than any of the subs your looking at.
2 12s will be nowhere near as loud as 4 10s. Your problem is your box obviously sucks. Ported boxes sound good if you tune low you don't need to use a sealed box for those woofers to sound good. Put them in 1 cubic foot per woofer ported and not only will it be a rediculous amount louder you won't miss slight differance in SQ. Getting 2 12s in a sealed box will only dissappoint you even more than what you have and of course you will be poorer on top of it
P.S. modelling means nothing when you take it out of a vaccuum and put it in a car
yeah all i listen to for the most part is metal about killing bunny's... and even i have a slot ported box, double bass - no problem, punk rock - no problem, theres only one album i have a hard time with but every stereo i own including my home one has trouble with that disc.....
I was planning on going 2 12's ported in around the same amount of air space that I have, if not a little less.
All this stuff is starting to get very difficult to get all into my trunk I need some thats nice to look at, but is going to perform well. |
