I havnt been playin my system to distortion, but tonight when I was drivin around with a friend, I cranked my system, and all of a sudden the sub volume was cut in half, then no volume at all, I took the sub out of the box when I got home and found that 1 lead off each voice coil had been severed, Cone moves Freely, coils seem fine, but anyone know if shops will do this or if im on my own, theres not much space to work in there, otherwise I would just do it myself

 

Or if anyone could recomend a 15" driver for me, the box I have in my trunk is about as big as will fit, its about 2.5cubes and tuned to 35hz
Amp is 800wRMS clarion at 2 and 1ohm

 

Yea I'm sure either a shop or the manufacturer could fix that...Did they fall off or unravel? As long as there is no actual coil damage, it is likely fixable.

 

sub sounded fine before this happened, but the seem to have snapped close to the voice coil, I dont want to solider there, its not flexible and I know id be pulling it back out in about 5 mins

and I also dont want to start cutting Dust caps off of my sub, off to some shops tommorow I guess

its a little more difficult if its broken off at or near the cone....

I would 1st make sure the lead is long enough... then solder them back together.. finish by coating the connection well with epoxy, or it will just break off again.....

 

I think Im going to try and replace the wole lead, its broken off almost at the cone on one, and not much further on the other, soldering them back together, I dont think would hold and whats to stop them from breaking again if they have allready broke once

any advice on getting that dust cap off, without cutting the cone.
*edit, it looks like they were allready replaced, therer are 2 holes on each side beside the holes for the leads on it now, the sub did come with a dual 2ohm label right over a dual 4ohm label so maybe the VC was replaced

 

you may be able to pry the dust caps off and get at the VC leads... but they are often coated heavilly in glue, making them difficult to get at...... pm if you want some oversized dust caps since you will probably damage the old ones and mark up the cone.....

if you try fixing the leads, a good solder job and coating the connection in glue is key... it can be done and hold up over time.... (if you do a good job lol)
