Too much low end bass, need help please!
 

Hey guys, just joined the forum, lots of info here, and this is my first post, and need a bit of help,

Here's my problem right now. I've installed an aftermarket amp and sub to my factory head unit, and I'm getting too much lowend bass. The shop that did the installation did install a LLC as well. However, after tuning the sub and amp, there's still too much low end bass; have a bass control knob installed on my dash, but I have to constantely play around with it. Also what I noticed is that at when the bass knob is less than half way down, there's no difference with the output of the bass level, sounds the same as if I was turned it all the way down or if I left it in the middle. I only hear a difference when I crank up the bass knob. I'm really missing the thump or boom in the bass, and the deep low end bass gets very annoying at times. Some one mentioned maybe if I install a Scosche SLC4 4 channel line output controller would make the bass sound a lot better, but I don't know who to believe.

I think it's a decend setup, the place who did the installation is very well known in town. Some songs are real pain in the ass and i constantely have to play with the bass knob, where most people say you shouldn't have to. The other thing is, the shop kept on wanting to sell me the JL Clean Sweep that they say will get rid of the low end bass and make your sub sound just like it was hooked up to an aftermarket amp. But they want 1500 for it, I don’t' think I'm going to pay that much. And the guy said getting the JL W3 will give it a bit more "boom", i don't really care about the "boom", all i care is that too much low end bass at times, and that I don't have to play with the knob as much.
Can someone give me some advice on what to do or where to go from here? I can just say, when I had a cheap setup in my folk's Regal, with a MTX RoadThunder amp and a 12 inch MTX sub, sounded wayyyy better than now.

reQ can do what your asking. its 129 at FS or even small shops might have it. but this does is that it balances you output to match the system.

since stock decks are made to give out more bass when volume down and less bass volume up, the reQ will do the oposite of the deck sooo basicly will equalise your bass volume with the rest of the system


for 129 i wouldnt complain after hearing the the JL cleansweep is 1200$ lmao

you have a typical problem with newer oem systems when you add an after market sub system using a common LOC(line out converter). The problem is with the equalization inherent in the oem system. Factory oem systems employ vehicle specific equalization to compensate for the design, quality, power level, noise levels, etc...of the vehicle. A common practise is to enhance bass at low volumes (partly because it sounds good, and because it's easy for the oem amp to handle) and to reduce bass at higher volumes(because nobody wants their system sounding like crap and the factory doesn't want you blowing speakers under warranty). The solution...units like the JL cleansweep that take your oem signal and re-eq it to a flat(er) signal that is much more linear in it's output. however, at 1500.00(seems a little high to me) you can get a whole new system from head unit to subwoofer. I would look at this unit, does the same thing but way cheaper and still very good:

So reQ over Scosche LOC? I will probably stop by futureshop this weekend and pick it up, do you think it’s hard to install it? I already have my amp and sub hooked up, not sure if this is something that I can do myself or just go get a pro to do it.

A friend of mine recommend the ReQ before, but since the place that did the installation is well known, I asked them first. The funny thing is, they said they never heard of it, and told me not to get it. I’m not sure if they are trying to upsell me on the clean sweep or what, but seems a little strange that they’ve never heard of ReQ.

Another question, is my sub okay or would I tell a difference if I switch over to a JL w3 4ohm?

AND i never heard of MTX reQ either until i started working at FS lol soo your not the only one. the scoche LOC is crap all it does is give you rca outs and shitty bass like you have

im hoping they were not trying to up sale you lol cause 1500$ for the clean sweep is a rip off to me. i can get a kick ass deck and processor for that price

Before I even keep reading, this is a Mazda RX8 isn't it? Does it have the Bose system or standard system?

no, it's a is250 with factory navigation without mark levinson

4080 is usually the number I see for RX8 custom boxes, thus my guess. First thing to find out is if you factory system infact has a built in heavily equalized output. Second thing to find out is where they integrated into the factory system. Third, how have they integrated into the factory system.

Whatever the case may be, a proper interface adaptor is in your future. The Cleansweep is a great unit but it is not the price they are stating, by far. The RE-Q is a great unit as well. There will be a world of difference between it and a Scosche SLC4, don't sell yourself short. If you want to improve the results of the system, start with how it is integrating into what you currently have.
