Took advantage of my high pass filter on HU, question...
 

Didn't quite realize that changing the high pass filter setting on my deck would clear up the distortion I was getting on the components when the volume was cranked. But curious, what difference if I set at 80hz or upwards of 160hz, which seems to be the setting range?

I have at 80hz now, and no distortion, nice clean sound at high volume now on the front end. Just dunno what changes going higher on the setting? :dunno:

The higher you go the less bass from your components and the more power available from your deck/amp to play the range you want the speakers to recreate.

Ideally the highpass for the speakers should be at the same, or within an octave, of the lowpass for the subwoofer. Since most cars are very 'sensitive' in the 80-150hz range you can generally get away with a gap if your front speakers need a higher setting to sound best.

Thanks! Much appreciated! It sounds quite fine at 80hz, but I guess there's always room to fiddle with settings a bit. Right now, mids/tweets sound just right, filters are set as "thru" for the subwoofers.

Not good for the subs.... set them to 80hz also. :)

Wouldn't they be separate, settings wise? If I adjust for the front components, the subs set as thru should be ok, no? Is there a reason to balance the subs to 80hz?

Subs set at 80hz and below, comps et at 80hz and up.... you prolly have your amp set on lowpass anyways tho right?

Amps don't have individual settings other than gain. Ok, on the head unit, there's high pass front, high pass rear, high pass sw (subwoofer).

Front set at 80hz now. Rear is default, "thru", no rear speakers. Subs set to "thru", meaning head unit should be passing without filter to the subs.

If there's low filter settings, I've not gone that far or adjusted those in any way. I'd assume they are default, passing/allowing the amp to put direct to the subs.

Should be able to set the sw to low pass, and set it to 80 hz to match the point of the hi pass.

Thanks, I'll check about low pass at 80hz on the subs. It sounds fine right now though. I thought the subs being on own/separate RCA, specific subwoofer channel from the head unit, that it wouldn't matter. I guess to do this is more to just match it up to what the front end is now?
