Total Noob needing assistance!
 

Hello All,
I am a total car audio noob. I am planning on putting a very small system in my 01 vw golf. However, I do have a few questions. I have done some research on crutchfield and google, but just wanting some clarifications/help.

1. The input from my amp plugs into my Hu's audio input correct?

Nothing too crazy, just what I want.

3. I know that this sub has a rms of 150 watts and a peak wattage of 300. So the amp that I buy must be able to power the 150 rms but does it need to be able to power the occasional 300watt blast?

to tell u honestly stay away from this stuff. ur stock door speakers will be louder in the bass region than this. and for sub duty with 150watts rms is not much.. low end will suffer or actually be inaudible do to lack of power.

i run 1 10" on 400watts rms and its a ported box. sounds good and is decent loud. tryed a 4ohm load to my amp and pushed 160watts rms.. well u guessed it.. there wasnt really any sound..

all i can say is that u still dont have to go crazy in wattage from 300 to 500watts rms range is plenty and at least a 10" or if u want 8" go mulitple subs. and u can have a good quality sub and amp for a good price. save up if u have to. just dont waste ur cash on these thrown together and sell stuff lol

im sure ppl on here and vendors can make u a good deal. just make a budget, what kind of car u have. whats ur type of music. and ya..


BTW sony is by far better than legacy lol and sony is still crap " to me "

well i wouldnt go for legacy products....there cheap for a reason.....what i would recommend is banking a little more money and get better products, im sure you'll be happier....you dont need to spend a huge sum of money, just try not to go to cheap!!!
now to answer atleast one question of yours....from your head unit (rca's & remote wire) to your amp, and power from your battery to amp, and ground amp to the chassis of the car (on bare metal) sand paint off

Thanks for the replies. I figured from the prices that these products wouldnt be the geatest, but a decent beginner set. I guess not eh!

What I am looking for is a little punch of bass that my stereo does not deliver. I will be building a box in the back of my car, so I dont want anything bigger than a 8 inch sub, so I can still use my hatch area. I drive a vw golf 2 door.

Honestly, I listen to all kinds of music, rock, rap, pop. I would like set up that compliments all genres of music.

It is not a lot of money, but I would say my budget is around 100$. That is for sub/amp.

What sort of rms should I be running for my kind of music?

Is MA a ok brand? How bad are Legacy products?

pyle, piramid, lanzar, legacy, audiobahn, jensen, and i think a few others are all in the same boat.

not sure for MA tho. i think the only good line that they have is the harcore line. but not sure if that compares to lets say pioneer bottom line lol.. even pioneer can be had cheap and WILL sounds better

You can buy it all from SSA too. If using an 8" on 150W, unless it's right behind your head it's not doing much, the door speakers will be louder. My first sub was a sealed 10" ($20) on 220W and it was almost inaudible. For $30 you really get what you pay for which is next to nothing. Don't go past the RMS.
