two 10's or one 12?
 

Hey guys, new here to the forums. I was wondering if you guys could help me. I have a two infinity 1050w reference series subs in a sealed box, but my cousin also gave me one of his alpine type R swr-1241D subs not in a box. They would be powered by a infinity 611a red series amp. I would prefer put the 12 in as it would save me a bunch of space, but I don't want to shell out for a box if the 2 10's would be better. What do you guys think?

Get ahold of Trevor at Pound that Sound he is in BC as well and does some awesome work. I would say keep the 12 and try to sell the 10s. With the right box it will be just as loud and you will have a little extra space. :smilie_da I would take Alpine over Infinity anyday personally.

personally I would go with two 10" in a good ported enclosure over a single 12"

Thing is that I don't want a ton of SPL because its in the same cab as I am so I want to stick to sealed boxes, so would the one 12 provide similar SPL and SQ to the 2 sealed 10's?

I think two 10's will provide more snap/SQ than a single 12. I've always thought 12-15 subs were designed/meant for deeper bass, 10's always provided a good median in between.

2 sealed infinity reference 10's > 1 Alpine type-R 12. Heard a lot of both and I've always prefered Infinities sound.

RMS Power at 4 Ohms: 456 W x 1
RMS Power at 2 Ohms: 657 W x 1

250 RMS for the 10's and 500 for the 12. I'd give the 10's 328w @ 1 ohm if you can. A little more cone area & power. Over powering probably won't make a huge difference in a small sealed box, just watch the gains. Infinity recommends .75 cf3 for sealed.

If you want better lows than try a $200 Eclipse SW8200 (12) in 1.5 cubes @ 1ohm, they're 670W RMS so that amp is a nice match.

12's are the way to go. Do up the Alpine!

hehe, I was hoping for more of a clear cut answer. I guess I'll look for a box I can borrow to test out the 12" and compare it to the 10's. When I do go to hook up 12" how should I do it? Cause I hear all this talk about running it in series or parallel on other threads. Should I run a pos and neg to both voice coils or just one set of pos and neg and link the other terminals together?
