They are a joke to you guys, but people with small amps that are rated at 14.4v, a cap really does help reach they're rated power. Joking or not. And what's this "He's running JL, therefore must be using a cap."? hahaha, if you use JL amps you never need a cap. lol. They put out almost the same power from 11 - 15v. However the P300 he has is likely around 250 rms or less at 4 ohms 13.6V. The only way to get rated power out of Rockford is 14.4v solid usually at 2ohms. Slightest dip means big power loss. lol

Yuli, I didn't read your post @ 8:34 until after, I was still typing mine at that time.

Thnak for the info guys. Ya I think I will probably try and sell both amps to buy a more powerful one. It seems like using both amps would have bad effects.

There is no good way to make that work for you. Seeing as some people on here seem to be JL haters (ummm Yuli, ) lol, Might I recommend the JL 500.1 for this sub as long as you don't plan to get a second sub. If so, I'd look for something rated at 500 rms at 4ohms but is 2 ohm stable for later.

The funny things is that I had a chance to buy a JL 500/1 for 200$, but I never bought it.

What do you think about the Alpine Mrp500 amp?

Paul, at the next show I will explain to you why all of that is not true. I will just say that you will NEVER reach the amp's rated power if you hook it up at its RATED load. Rest I can explain when I see you.

I have been using that amp for a few months now am liking it. It has a small footprint so it's fairly easy to find a spot for it. The 500w RMS however is at 2 ohm. If I read the posts right you have a SVC 4ohm which means you will be putting out 300w RMS

Ya its a 4 ohm, but that amp will at least be better than my curent one.

I don't know if this is possible but was wondering if it can be done somehow?
This is easy and safe to do if your sub has dual voice coils. Simply wire each coil to one amp. Level matching is ideal but it will not hurt anything otherwise.

You would likely be looking at the same power out of the alpine as that from the Rockford you are currently using as both are rated to 300w RMS...correct?

The only benefit I can see for upgrading to the Alpine would be that you could buy another sub and hook it up for a 2 ohm load. You would still be underpowering it though as each sub would be seeing 250W RMS max. If you are thinking of going Apline and adding another sub you may as well find an amp that will give the subs their full power.
