type x 5.25's vs. xenon 5.25's

I am looking at picking up a pair of 5.25 xenon's off ebay for 100 american shipped. However, I can get a pair of alpine type x comps from my buddy at visions for 235 plus tax. Question is, are the type x's worth the 100 bucks more I would pay over the xenon's? I haven't bought an amp yet either if that helps.

Never heard the Xenon's, but I have played around with the X's quite a bit, and they are really good speakers for the price, especially considering the x-over that comes with the set... easily worth $235.. easily.

how is the midbass and tweet on the type x set? My two biggest areas on concern, I want a laid back tweet, and I would like to get as much midbass (yes, i know, 2 15's versus a single 5.25 comp set won't keep up, but looking for something than can attempt to on lower sub levels) as possible.

hey i got the xenon comps...they tweet is amazing...clear not harsh at all...they have good mid range and the presence is there..but they lack midbass...for a 100 bucks u cant go wrong....

Do the type x's pack any midbass, or am i best to go with the xenon's and the money i save invest in a set of 8" mids?

turnstylez18 04-10-2006 01:44 PM

if i were u...get the xenons and use that extra money and get some good mids...a lot of ppl i know use the xenons for their tweets...
ur choice though...

I think since I'm on a bit of a budget right now I'll go with the xenon's. Just a side question though, they are rated for 150 rms, should I actually throw that much power at them or do they still do well with say 100 per side?

turnstylez18 04-10-2006 10:36 PM

im putting 75 rms into them..and they're good enough for me...100watts would be good for them...

Ya, I'm looking at a xenon 100.2 to go with the set. Just waiting on a shipping quote now.

Xenon set hands down, they will roar with the full 150rms, but a 100.2 will be a very nice match as well!
