I've been told that the 12" Type X out-performs the W7. I didn't quite believe it, but I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone's tested them out against eachother? Plus I'd like to know if the type X is worth buying for only listening to music, or is it made more for competition use.

thanks

I have the exact same question, with all the hype about the w7, if the xxx is just as good, why is it never advertised? everyone who has used it seems to be pleased with its results though...

Why does Nike advertise alot but how often do you see Saucony or New balance advertise?

Everyone I have spoken to about the type X says "the unfortunate thing is people will buy it cause it says alpine, but there is nothing special about it. Overhyped"

The most common discription "Very inefficient"

Never heard of Saucony or New Balance.......lol.
Why arnt the special products advertised then?
I am sure once people know how good they are that everyone would buy them. Dont get me wrong, I agree that the most popular usually isnt the best, but why not have the best being the most popular?

I can answer that. A company with market there product in different ways alpine goes buy there name very good name big name in car audio. JL puts this big hype making people wait forever for there product so when it finally comes out everyone wants to see if it is what it is. Every company markets there product different. Good marketing companys can make piles of poo seem like you just won the lottery if you get this product. Or make you jump higher or get skinnyier it's all about what the customer believes drill it into there head enough times someone is going to believe that and buy it for that reason.

And on the issues I like the W7 I still have not seen a Type X in person but knowing alpine it's going to be a good sub. I have a full alpine system right now and I love it. Either or, you know there 2 top quality companys and neither product is going to suck.

ok.......so xxx and all the really good priced high performance car audio companies need to market there stuff better?

triple_XXX_kid 08-29-2004 08:00 AM

have you ever noticed that a lot of really bad movies are advertised all over the place before they actually get to the theater?

RE is a small company and it can't afford the advertising that JL can, obviously. I own a 15"xxx myself and it's an amazing sub

I was thinkin of buyin a 12" type X. The guy wants $600 tax incl. I'm debating if I should do that or order a 12W7. Either way I'm sure they'd both do the trick.

LOL, the W7 is a vastly superior driver(though they charge an obscene amount for it).
If you can afford the W7 and want the better of the 2 drivers, it's a no-brainer.
30mm Xmax, totally flat BL curve, superior thermal powerhandling and the list goes on.

As far as the XXX goes, RE is a lesser known brand that's why they aren't seen as much. The upside with RE is that their price to performance ratio is amazing with every driver.

I also suggest looking at porting an Orion H2 15" They'll do nicely in 3cubes net, tuned in the lower 30's.

Efficiency (1W/1M) = 112 + 10*log(9.64*10^(-10)*Fs^3*Vas/Qes

Alpine SWX-1242D efficiency = 81.919 dB
JL 12W7 efficiency = 85.964 dB

Ouch ...
