Hey all, I'm thinking of replacing my speakers. The current ones are ok, but not the quality I want. Plus one of the fronts is blown and whenever you up the volume it crackles [img]tongue.gif[/img]

So, if I was looking for the following:

2 - 5 1/4" Fronts
2 - 6x9 Rear

I don't want to pay to much, but want something good enough to keep me satisfied for a very long time. So I would say a top of $300-400 for either set(so 600-800 total).

Also, I currently have a lower end panisonic head unit. It plays MP3/WMA and I don't have any problems with it, is there any point in getting a higher end unit?

And I allready have an AMP that can power these speakers.

What I've been looking at so far is Polk Audio and Alpine....Also, what do you think about Infinity, I have some infinity speakers in one car, they sound good, but I really haven't haerd alot of other sytems to compare to.

Also, how big a deal is wattage? I see some that handle 100Watts that are cheap, then others that only handle half that and are twice as expensive?

Check out the Fusion line. I got 2 way 4x6's and 6x9's put in my Lady's car and they are awsome, not to pricy, exclent sound, and handle all the pwer I've thrown at 'em. From a Jensen 600w 4 ch. They are soft, not sharp like some. You may want to hang at L.S.S. and listen to what others got before parting w/ hard earned coin first. It's ur money and ur ears that gota live w/ it . [img]smile.gif[/img] The wall demo will give U an idea of what the system will sound like but it can be totally different in the car.

With the kind of money your talking about, I would look into a decent component set and subwoofer. Forget about the 6x9s, rear fill shouldn't be a top priority.

Since you mentioned that you have an amp to power your existing speakers, I going to assume that its a 4 channel amp. I would use the first two channels to run the components and the last two channels to run the subwoofer.

As for recommendations, I would look into CDT components. For excellent value, check out the Classic line. Go for the 6.5" mid instead of the 5.25", I'm sure that you could shoe horn it in. The 6.5" will give you much better low-end bass response. For a subwoofer, you could look into and entry level Elemental Design's driver, an Adire Shiva, or even JL W0/W3 series driver. I think that combo should come in well under your budget and give you awesome results.

Ok, thats an interesting idea. So are you suggesting I just drop the rear speakers all together? Or keep the ones I have. I could use the infinity 6x9 speakers I have in the other car, the only thing I dislike is the high's seem really harsh on them.

I could fit 6.5 inch speakers in the front (with some work). Also, my amp should be able to handle that plus a sub. So it sounds like a good plan.

However they did sound great, I wasen't expecting that from a flashy speaker.

You can keep the original 6x9s and use deck power if you really want rear fill. Just use a bandpass crossover to filter out the lows and highs. That will keep your front stage from being pulled to the rear of the vehicle. You may also want to use a separate volume knob to control the output of the 6x9s.

So you can use them but to intergrate them into the system will require a little more effort. Is it worth it? If done right, it can't hurt your setup.
