how much difference would it make?

If I were to put in a second sub and larger amp, how much of a difference will that make?

Going from a single 10" JL 10w6v2 to dual 10" 10w6v2 powered by a JL 500/1 instead of a 250/1 amp. Sealed box.

wiltshire559 05-07-2006 06:05 PM

has nobody ever doubled both the amp power and added a second sub before? and able to explain what difference it made
just wondering before I spend money on something that might not be worth it

Hardwrkr 05-07-2006 07:39 PM

You're doubling your bass end so it's obviously going to be louder.
You're still only left with two 10's and 500rms so it's not going to be crazy if that's what you're expecting.

If your current driver is sealed then you may want to consider porting it before spending the cash on the new gear.

Try to realize what it is that you want to get out of your system and then we'll have an idea what it is that may best suit you.

BigRedGuy 05-07-2006 08:34 PM

/\ What he said....those are great woofers, but a single one will handle the 500/1 no problems...:smilie_da

That looks like a pretty nice system listed in your sig. Have you heard the W6 in a ported box? Maybe a new enclosure would make a better starting point for an upgrade....it would certainly be cheaper than another driver or the 500/1, which you could still get later....:cheeky4:

wiltshire559 05-07-2006 10:41 PM

the hit in the chest feeling

the way my trunk is designed two tens is all I can put in there, maybe my next upgrade will be to a ported box

I had Power Acoustik A1800DB running two Blaupunkt 10" overdrives, ported box, that was a great setup, hit hard enough for me. But sadly one of the subs developed a tear in the rubber surround and it was game over for that setup. Couldn't get a replacement as they no longer made that model. Been trying different setups since.

What I have now isn't the same level so I need to go change something.

MR2NR 05-07-2006 11:25 PM

That trunk is a huge beyatch. You should easily be able to get two 12's in that trunk. Bigger amp, bigger subs, bigger wire and custom box = chest hurting, eyes jiggling ear hurting bass.

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/3/web/447000-447999/447399_4_full.jpg

that is where the box sits, 12" of height

maybe you were thinking of putting the box right in the middle of the trunk, thats not how I like it

MR2NR 05-07-2006 11:36 PM

Does that pic of the box have 10" subs in it?

hofulstrof 05-07-2006 11:48 PM

if you had the tools and time i would also suggest trying that sub in a ported enclosure

yes they are

Move that amp of the top of the box and look at all the room you now have. The amps can be mounted on the backside of the box, in front of the box, to the sides of the trunk....

I have tried a single 12" sub like that before, its possable I could go back to that, just that I already have a 10" and those are supposed to be better for the type of music I listen to

could two 12"s fit in the back of the trunk?

How so?.....just wondering......:dunno:

Easily...but if you do 2 10W6's in a ported enclosure with a 500/1 each or a 1000/1 for the pair, you won't even care how big the drivers are...:smilie_da

wiltshire559 05-08-2006 07:55 PM

I've always understood that 10's were better for techno music as they move faster or something like that

won't I run into the problem of power supply with 1000/1 amp?

fatty matty 05-08-2006 08:01 PM

Generaly speaking, 10's will have better response than 12's but only when power is an issue (lack of power that is). If ou have adequate power then 12 inch subs are just as reponsive as 10's but are louder!!

Go with the 12 inch sub if you are only going with one!!!

Ummm....OK....I would put enclosure design ahead of woofer size myself....

well, if you're going to make any move that will increase the output, there may be power issues....have you done any upgrades to the electricals yet??

I did once have a larger alternator, it didn't work good at idle so I wen't back to the stock alternator

I have a red top altima battery, best thing I could get out of walmart after replacing the previous battery through the warrenty
if the 1000/1 drew too much juice then I would be kinda in a pickle

Did you try taking the larger one back where you got it first to see what was wrong with it??

Have you upgraded the wiring under the hood??....if nothing else, putting in larger wire from the battery to ground and the 2 alternator wires should help with the larger amp.

tried that once already, they couldn't correct the problem so lived with it for awhile until the car almost died in stop and go traffic, got a new stock altanator from part source and got $50 for the old one, was in Barrie at the time and the old one came from a place in Whitby. Just happy to have things working properly again.

I've looked at those wires and can't see where they connect to and anyways they are pretty beefy wires to begin with.

wiltshire559 05-10-2006 10:40 AM

right now I've purchased a new head unit, JVC it has 5volt pre outs for front.rear.sub, after that is installed I'll decide if a larger sub is needed
my current deck only has 2.5volt pre outs front.rear so I'm hoping for a better signal

wiltshire559 05-11-2006 07:05 PM

while I wait for the new JVC deck:

elimanated vibration noise in rear tail light housing by adding foam pads behind it also the liscence plate got the same treatment

the aura bass shakers needed to have the wiring played with so the two front seats were seperate, previously I had the seats wired together and the backs wired together now the seats are seperate left and right sides

the passenger seat aura bass shakers are on a switch so the passenger has the option to use them or not, this was sugested by somebody and it wasn't that hard to wire in, only $10 worth of parts from Parts Source and some blood sweat and tears, well maybe not so much the tears but you get the idea

wiltshire559 05-16-2006 05:24 PM

the parcel came today but I wasn't around to accept it, I will never be around when they arive. And they want money for brokerage fee's, what the heck can I do?

veeman 05-16-2006 08:39 PM

who's delivering? usually they try twice and then leave a tag telling you where to pick it up. Brokerage fees, taxes, and any service charge should be fairly low depending on who it was shipped with. The cheapest is Canada Post. UPS, Fedex etc. are higher.

I fixed the problem by going to the UPS distribution center here in Edmonton. I should be able to pick up the package from there tomorrow. The company I ordered it from charged me $100 for customs duties and now there is an aditional $75 to pay for brokerage fee's. I'm not surprised as I have ordered stuff from the states and had to pay a fee to the customs people before.

veeman 05-16-2006 09:49 PM

depending on what you buy and more specifically, where it is manufactured, you may have to pay duty. If the item is manufactured in the U.S, there's no duty but you usually have to pay pst/gst and the brokerage fees. That's why you should always use Canada Post/US post as their brokerage fees are a flat rate of 5.00 cdn. Unfortunately, many companies in the states don't ship via USPS, so you have to look around for ones that do ship that way and insist on it. Ebay has many that will.

wiltshire559 05-18-2006 11:06 AM

ok I got it now, next step is the install
