using a fan to cool an amp

so with my new speakers installed and amp turned up a bit more, things are getting hot enough for it to shut down. though it only happened once and music was playing for 2 - 3 hours.

i was thinking of cutting up the front cover and adding a fan or 2 but heard if you take power from the amp it will cause a noise issue due to the fan motor. any truth to that?

if it is i can run a wire to the front of my car and have the fan on a switch to only cool when it over heats.

malarky!

at low volumes you will hear the fan spinning, but it really wouldn't be THAT loud. on my first competition amp, the Kenwood KAC 8102D, I used to have an overheating problem that would shut it down, sometimes in a few minutes. my solution was to remove the two top covers and screw on a little computer fan wired up to the remote so it would only turn on when the amp turned on. never once did it shut down after putting the fan on it. I'd recommend removing a piece that can be removed if you can, just because cutting it up might cause another problem, but if you know what you're doing then go for it.
