Voice Coil Smell...
Voice Coil Smell...
I have never been the first to give power to a set of subs and just recently got ahold of a pair of my buddies that i am going to be installing in his car.
I wired them in a box and hooked them up for the first time and upon running them for no more than about 5 min while setting gain i got a hint of the "toasty voice coil" scent from each sub.
I was wondering if running the subs for the first time would generate such a scent, or if subs that are about 2 years old would possibally burn off oxidized portions of the voice coil?
basically looking to see if anyone has an explination.
thanks in advance,

This freaked me out the first time I turned my sub on, but it went away after a day or so. On the subject of smells, I smell burning rubber when I park my car, but I don't drive hard and the belts aren't burning.
^No. I would notice that with my 140 donkeypower engine. I do have winter tires, but regardless of road conditions I get the smell. It's probably one of those things that will go away if I ignore it enough.
