Volkswagen Stereo System

I am new to this site, having come upon it through a search of car audio topics. It appears this group might be able to help me. I recently purchased a 2010 VW Jetta TDI sedan with "premium" stereo. Unfortunately, I am finding out that the sound quality is anything but premium. I have read in some posts elsewhere that VW has made it difficult to modify speakers. My primary complaint is that the car seems to have a poor soundstage with inferior performance in particular coming from the front door speakers. For anyone that might have VW knowledge, is it possible to switch speakers or would it be better to look at a new head unit or crossover configuration? I would like to retain the steering wheel audio function that includes bluetooth. Any feedback, suggestions or direction would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

In VW's it's not a simple 4 screws and swap a speaker - I have not had the change to listen to a 2010 yet, but if the speakers are anything like the previous years, they are pretty decent - and will require you to upgrade to a pretty good component system (usually $400+ IMO) to make a big difference for most people.

I'd start with adding a sub, and getting some real power to the stock speakers - not to mention putting a HP X-over on the stocks - which will give them more power handling and generally make them sound better.

I'd look at some kind of setup that will give you about 50-75 watts RMS to the Fronts (and rears if you choose) and then whatever you want for a sub - 1 x 10" or 12" ported with 200-300W RMS to round the system out - and up from there if your looking for boom or more.

You can 100% keep your deck in place with it's functions - probably be the last thing I would replace.. if you want to keep it, but still get 100% audio, control etc - put in a Bit One from Audison as well.
