Hey guys, its been a long time since I posted on here, but never fear, I still browsed the forums on my free time. I just got my all my stuff installed. It goes like this.

1994 Ford Ranger XLT cab
CDA-9833
SPS-690A - Fronts/Rears
Type R 1041D x2
MRP-M350 x2 (for subs)
and a foolish purchase of a capacitor, which does nothing but look cool. meh.

Now, my car's lights dim like crazy, it starts to put when it just sits there, and it is really hard to start (as in it takes a while turning the key)

I know I need either a new battery or an alternator. This leads to my first question. What do you reccomend as far as batterys? Any one I should look into?

Also, the subs hit pretty hard, but I want to be able to make the whole system louder. So... i was looking into the F-540 for my speakers. Would that be a good idea?

Finally, last question, I almost have enough saved for a new car. I will most likely be a 94 prelude. Will this equipment be fine in that car, or will i need to upgrade? I just want mainly SQ that can go really loud. k

sorry bout the long post, but thanks,

Ben

everyone raves about the optima yellow top battery, but like every thing else in life....research...find out what would work best for you......or just get the yellow top and spend the extra time scratching your balls.

very first thing that i would do is check all the grounds. even the cars original grounds. make sure that those are all clean. if your vehicle is harder to start then most likely your tterminals are corroded to poop. now this means going to every place on the car where the current flows thru(batt posts, enigine block to batt conection, body to engine block, amps connection, starter connection, alt connection, etc) and make sure that none of them are green or have any form of parasitic resistance.replace what is corroded if cleaning aint enough. This is not the only solution but is costs almost nothing to check and clean(2.00 in sandpaper). I would see about a new batts and/or better alt but generally doing this ground cleaning usually solves alot of problems. if you have absolutely no idea what i just mentioned above then go to a shop, id hate to see you post that you killed your batteries electrical cause you didnt know that a wrench across the termical makes a battery explode. careful. and good luck. keep us posted as to whether this helps.

upgrade your batt if the truck is hard to start
you may not enough juice for the demand however
i would first get a load test on your batt
any batt place should be able to do this for free

as for the lude your spkrs wont fit in that car
and as for the f540 buy it it's an awsome amp.

cool cool, i will definatly try those suggestions. And if everything fails, I will get the yellow top, and proceed to scratch my balls. and 6x9's wont fit in a lude?

Wallmart has the RedTop Optima for $158 with trade-in of your (or any) old dead battery.

Pretty good deal IMO.

I have the Exide Orbital battery which I purchased at Canadian Tire for $179. It's been great and may have contributed to my 2.3 DB increase in SPL on the Termlab at DBDrag. That combined with tuning helped increase my score in Street A. I am sure Team Shadow has good things to say about Exide Batteries.

If your alt is toast you can test that by starting the vehicle and disconecting the battery. If the vehicle dies then your alternator is fubar.

Take the battery into Canadian Tire and they can test it for you.

forget optima, get a hawker odessy 1700

upgrade/add the ground and power from alternator to the battery

ground your battery to the frame of the car right under the hood with a 1/0 wire

I have an Exide Orbital Xtreme Cycle Duty 34XCD brand new for sale.

$140.00 Cash Firm

I had my original XCD in for warranty due to short and bought a YellowTop while I waited for the new XCD to arrive.

So now the new XCD ( I have the paper work ) is available for the first person interested.
