What amp should I keep, help me choose.

I have 2 amps and I am not to sure which one I should use. I believe I will eventually get a more powerfull 5 channel amp but for now have these 2 at my disposal.

First one up is a 4 channel RF X400.4 50watts RMS X 4 @4ohms:

The other choice is a 4 channel Cadence Amadeus 4000 , they dont specify RMS power but looking at the fuses, power seems similar to the RF amp (2x25amp fuses).

The Cadence is much heavier and smaller and shiner but not sure about its performance. I have never had trouble with RF. I do have a matching mono RF 401S but I think i will try and get rid of it for something else later on.

So what amp to choose and why?

The amp will be powering a set of Canton QS3.28
130watts RMS @ 4ohm or I can bi amp the passive xover and I am pretty sure the amp will see 8 ohms instead of 4.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

I say if the power's there use it. If you're going through the passive's then use both amps and bridge them both bi-amping on the crossover's.

I won't be keeping both amps, just one, I really dont want more then one amp powering my system since it needs to be stealthy and out of the way.

Those two put together aren't going to be much, if any, bigger than that big 5ch you said you wanted to upgrade to.

Keep the Cadence Amadeus 4000

My components dont need 800watts, I just have this preference to having one amp power everything. But for now, I need to keep one of these amps and if someone has a reason why I should use one over the other that sounds cool to me hehe.

Be it because one is prettyer, because of prejudice or whatever. :)

The amp will still see 4 ohms when using the bi-amp inputs.

Kickass drivers, incidentally.

Oh and I would use the RF for no reason other than it is RF :smokin:

veeman 10-11-2006 02:39 PM

RF! I have never had a problem with their amps in over 20 years, and many installs in many cars!

I was wondering how that works...
How can it remain the same impedance?

I am confused also as to what impedance the amp would see if I were to run a dedicated channel to each driver. Still 4 ohm? 8 ohm?

I just realised that my second RF amp is a 2 channel and not a mono one, so I could perhaps tri-amp the set...

The drivers are all 4 ohm. The job of the passive crossover is two-fold. Firstly it keeps each speaker playing the range it can cover properly. Secondondly, for the amp, it divides the speakers into separate ranges so the amp only 'sees' each speaker one at a time.

The bi-amp feature on the crossover just lets you run more power to the midbass if you want.

You should choose one and give the other one to me:P lol

I will give one to you if you give money to me.

How much for the RF. :D

BJ 10-12-2006 10:48 PM

Put prices up for either

You guys are pretty funny. This post isnt about selling my amps...

I suppose I will end up getting rid of one anyway... so

RF: 169$ shipped (4 or 2 channel)
Cadence: 209$ shipped

So far though, most people have suggested I use the RF so uhhmmm.... But the Cadence's fuse might indicate it makes more then 400watts (2 25 amps fuses) so maybe it has an extra 100watts or so advantage. I need to find actual power figures for it.

if its not to much work run one for a few days then swap it out for the other . That is if its easy to do . this way you can make an educated guess.
take a minute or two for tweeking and tuning drive iot for a week put both threw all the tests you can think of and sell the one that is your least favorite.

Well I probably wont get to install it till next spring since Its getting to cold and I dont have a garage. Hopefully next year I will own a garage heh.

I opened up the amps to compare what they look like from inside. I will get picks up later.

It was interesting to compare the 2 rockford 400watt amps, both punch series, one older and one newer, one bigger and one smaller.

I regret not opening up all the amps I have owened, its fun to compare. Not that I really know anything about what I am seeing ha.

Here are the 2 RF amps, to the left is the 4 channel and to the right, the 2 channel. the 4 channel looks beefier to me, anyone care to give breef explanations as to what is what in there?

Here is the cadence internals, looks pretty nice.
