Just tell the guy what you think about the stuff you use and leave it like that. Everyone here knows, that you are a BRAND , end of story, if there ever was a IDEAL or PERFECT SUB, we would al be using them, so dont beat around the damm bush, tell him what you have, and your opinion on it, and let him decide. Chances are he can get all or most of them anyway (in his area I mean). Dont brag up what you use, because you know someone else or myself will post a different opinion on that as well.
Remeber, people are looking for guidence, and your NOT a salesmane for the brand you use, you dont get commision or perks for saying anything different, so just help him with the the basic details and let him decide!!

I'd like to add a twist to this.
Most peoples taste will change. Aside from just getting older, people will find out more about what they like.
But without a doubt, most of us have some "first" experience with car audio that will never be replicated. I felt a certain amount of awe the first good system that I heard. If I heard that same system now, I would be very disapointed. My tastes have changed, evolved, and matured. I would say that it would be much easier to satify the tastes of a beginner than it would be to satisfy someone like myself.
So that being said, I reallize that some people are recomending products that anybody will be impressed with. Those are the top level products that are designed with a certain price point in mind. A much less expensive driver could satify a begginer just as well.
My first sub was single 12" polypropylene unit with a stamped frame and 40 oz magnet. I thought it was incredible.
I'm not going to talk about my subs. I feel that this response to the newbie's question will add to what everybody else has said.

Sadly, I don't think that there is anyone in the entire car audio industry that is qualified to answer the above question. I get to listen to more products than anyone else in all of car audio, and even then, there are dozens of woofers that I'd still like to get my hands to to evaluate.
