What to buy?

Hey guys, i got 300-400$ cad to spend on 2 subwoofers. I've done research and can't make up my mind. I won't be competing or anything, but i want something that will pound really hard, sq isn't a necessity. I want something that people will hear me when im far away. So basically you could say i want competition subs but i just wont be competing. The music i mostly listen to is Hiphop. I will be making the box my self. So could anyone suggest anysubs from the 300-400 price range that will shake, tear up my car and make me and people ouside my car go deaf :cheeky4: lol. Thanks :)

zinger002 01-24-2007 04:40 PM

people outside wont go def woth a 400 dollar budget.
what amps do you have to power these subs your looking for?

s14_240sx 01-24-2007 04:42 PM

what amp do you have. Theres no ponit buy comp subs without an amp. :dunno:

Raman 01-24-2007 08:59 PM

well i dont have an amp, im just buying subs atm, then once they are bought i shall buy an amp to power them. But right now just wondering what subs i could get for 400 bucks. and by saying making people go def outside my car, im just saying i want really loud subs. :cheeky4:

92zed34 01-24-2007 09:46 PM

You want loud subs, buy somthing in the 100-200 wrms per range and feed them about 100 over that (clean power) and they will be loud.

One thing ive learned in car audio is there is no point in going over 600 watts rms on a stock alternater,it really is a waste of money. Some people think the subs are 12oo wrms they must be freaking loud!,well ya they are if you power them properly they will be,but you aint gonna do that with a 12oo watt amp attatched to a stock alternater, big three, cap aint gonna help you here.

Dont even bother passing the 600rms bass amp without an alt upgrade its pointless.

O RLY?

My system ran fine off a 90 amp alternator feeding an 1800 RMS sub amp along with two PH15's for a year and a half. Mind you, I never recall having it cranked, for I like to keep my hearing.

Maybe for any sub amp above.....ohhhhh 2KW that you're going to use for SPL purposes would definitely qualify a reason for getting an alternator upgrade. Let's be fair, it is subjective. Some cars come with 60 amp alts, some come with far more. In my case, the 90 I have was the same that came with the car only got drained out when I drove the system volume beyond what I could reasonably withstand for a short while....then again that's the volume my younger brother likes.

LOLZ!!!!

I've ran 1800 wrms on subs for daily pounding with no cap, no big 3, no alt, not even a battery upgrade, and I've been fine.

IMO about 2000-2500wrms is where you start to really abuse a stock charging system in the average car.

Hell, people used to run stuff like Orion 2100HCCA's without upgraded alts.

Brad-S.A. 01-25-2007 06:17 AM

YA 92zed34 I think your off abit. There is lots of people running high powered systems on stock alt.

Here is my recommendation. Get a couple of 10's or 12's around 500Wrms each and a nice D class 1000Wrms monoblock and put your subs in a nice well built ported box and rock on out. That will pretty much do what you want. Also goto Selective Sound as he is in your neck of the woods there talk to Davis and go listen to some different subs. If you want something to look at checkout the RE and then even you friends will think your serious. :)

liv2ride 01-25-2007 08:50 AM

selective actually got his site up and running .. (wasn't for the longest time) !!!:cheeky4:

what are some prices for some 500 rms mono amps ?! anyone :dunno:
and also for 1000 rms mono :)

smooth 01-25-2007 09:31 AM

I'd say get a RE SX 12" in a spec ported box with about 1000w rms and call it a day.

silverbane 01-25-2007 09:47 AM

Or order a Fi.BL with full options and a Sundown 1500 and call it a day...

Just get a pair of Perfects. 10's or 12's. You don't need a whole lot of power for them to get loud, and they fit in your price range.:smokin:
Just my $0.02
