Im running an Alpine CDA9851 deck with CDT Audio 3/4" tweeters (which replaced my stock mazda protege5) im also running cdt audio CL6x coax both front and back

Im wondering which type (size) of cap to use on these new ones so they may work as a bass blocker if you will.

Which one of these would be more suited: 1uF or 4.7uF?

i would use what the manufacture recomends
they designed the tweeter
so they would know what works best

I dont have a crossover for them and they didnt come with any caps, hence why im looking to put some in.

The OEM ones came with 1uF, but im unsure if its the best one to use on the new ones

try a 2.2 and seee if it sounds better

I believe there's a chart on www.bcae1.com that goes into depth re: capacitors/freq. rolloff (passive crossover tutorial I believe). If you have the time, try different caps and see which one sounds better to you. I believe I ran a cap somewhere in the 6.x range (1" Orion XTR) and it sounded pretty good.

Ideally you should figure out where your mids start to roll off then use a crossover calculator to figure out what value cap you should use to make the tweet pick up everything over that...

simple way I guess would be to play tones through your mids.. start around 4khz and go up to 10khz... when you hear the signal level drop estimate that as the freq to go with... [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

Well, if they are 4ohm tweeters, a 1uF cap is a highpass of 40,000hz. That's pretty high..

A 16ohm speaker would be 10,000hz which is at least semi-reasonable.

For your new 4ohm tweeters, a 4.7uF cap will cross them over at about 8500hz which is suitable.
