What to do with power antenna?

Hi All,

I just picked up a second hand Pioneer Premier DEH-P670MP. Installed it this weekend, but one thing that's been annoying me is that it only has one 'remote' wire, so both amps and power antenna have to get hooked up to the same lead. Now, EVERY time I turn on the stereo the damn antenna goes up.

At this point I'm considering just wiring in a switch so I can control it manually (as lame as that is).

Anyone else in the same boat? What did you do?

so...most cars have antennas that are up all the time.

1 Get in car..turn on radio..antanna goes up
2 drive
3 Stop, pull keys out..antenna goes down...

Othewise if you press source between CD, AUX and Tuner, the power antenna just goes crazy...

I am more concerned with power draw...Your power antenna may draw more than the amp remote can put out...you may need a realay in between.

Hmmmm... Didn't even think about power-draw being an issue...

I just think it's kind of lame having the antenna up if you're not using it (if the vehicle's got a power antenna). I only listen to the radio like 5% of the time anyway, so it's just wear and tear on the antenna for no reason. I think it's going to be the switch then...

I just don't get it. Pioneer's been in the game as long as anyone, and this isn't exactly a low-end deck. My last mid-range alpine had seperate antenna and remote wires, as did my my buddies newish Sony.

Oh well... Can't have it all.

I have the same problem with my deck and its the most exspensive one I have ever owned

My solution was to put in a switch under the dash, problem solved

The radio might get used for sports games

I don't want my antenna up during the winter as it could break the motor if its frozen solid outside

cost of parts to do this was less then $10 at a Parts Source store
