Hi, my sub is 200 watts RMS X2, so I'd like an amp about 300 X 2. What do you recommend. A friend of mine has a Kicker Zr1000 for $500.00. Amazing amp, but how good does it sound? what else can you recommend? please help. I have no idea what to do.

there are tons of amps out there, it's all basically how much money do you have to spend. You could get JL 1000/1 for under a grand, but a Helix or a Tru amp will run you big bucks.

I got my Xtant 1001d for $500 Canadian. It sounds fantastic and is very powerful. Check out the amp at www.xtant.com

I'd say it'll depend on the speaker and the cabinet.
Some amps are either fast and shallow, and others are deep and slow, voltage or current driven.
If the speaker's compliance is stiff than you may need a current driven amplifier, if it's loose then a voltage driven amp is the answer, and the box will have to match both.
