what to go with? sq/spl/sql??

hi guys! i really need some help here on the box set up for my hatchback. now i have 4 10" premier subs, they total 1600 rms watts running off of 2 JL500.1 amps. now im not going to change any of the amps or subs but im in the process of building a box. now throwing the difficulty of building a ported box over a sealed box out the window, i have some questions.the building part is not an issue, as hard as it may be in my case. im focusing on the sound here only. now i've been reading up on SQ,SPL and SQL and tyring to educate myself. being from the sticks , i have no access to listening to different types of sounds. i really wish i could hear the differences between SQ(deep bass) vs. SPL(loud). i assume SQL is in the middle of these 2 ??
Anyway, all i know is, i want that bass that you can really feel, like going through your body type thing. i dont want it like a rumbling bass that 12's do. i want it to hit hard and that can shake as much car parts as possible,and hear me from a mile away haha! i know i sound like a stupid teenager, but thats what im looking for. i mean im confused because if what i heard is correct, SQ offers that low deep bass, but SPL is like competition stuff, so wouldnt that kind of sound be deep bass?? when i see the tuning numbers, they are opposite totally in this area. i've read its just how "loud" subs can get, but do competitions measure ALL the speakers, componants etc. or only the bass??
is SQ strictly for sealed box
SPL = ported
SQL = both???
please help! thx!

You can get good spl/sq in sealed or ported boxes..... I would either go for a large sealed box or a box ported around 30hz... that should get low enough, and will have some good thump to boot....
when you design the box you want the group delay curve to be as flat as possible for SQ... you can play around in winisd...
Good luck.. have fun..

The only 2 places I have heard the term SQL is here (and everyone was going crazy on the guy for lumping SPL and SQ together as you said) and in MECA SQL is their Sound Quality League.
MECA also has a 'drive by SPL' competition where the microphone is 2 meters from the car and the car tries to hit the biggest number in its class. This is exactly what you are talking about, good powerful bass outside the car! It is kind of curious which setups do well with drive by SPL (sealed boxes, JL W6 drivers etc.). I WILL NOT try to talk intelligently on how to do this I can only point you to the MECA forum and you could read their posts on how to annoy the neighbors. I can only hit 108 dB in drive by (shhh, listen he is so quiet he must be an SQ guy)

another newb comment, but wouldn't it make sense that SQL would be in the middle? i mean if you wanted a balance of both SQ/SPL. what would you look for then? or is it impossible to have the best of both worlds??
why is it one way or the other?

^ IMO build your cabinet to the best SQ specs you can. You have enough cone and enough power that it will be plenty loud regardless.
lol, that's just messed up man. Do you get bonus points for extreme decals or having your seat adjusted so you have to sit up to peek out the side window?

Yo yo yo yo D don’t be a hatin
There are some tricks to actually increase the SPL outside the car. Some rides sound loud (but aren’t) and some just knock you on your butt loud. This is a nice way to not violate noise statutes and get real bragging rites to what many of the kid’s want (I want to wake up the neighborhood!). The rules DO NOT allow any foul language and it really is kind of fun (coming from a quiet SQ guy) and a little serious too this is bragging rites for some!
