Holy balls. By the second page of reading my ADHD started kicking in. When I got to the middle of the third I decided to skip the rest. I wish I could have replied sooner but I kindof drove off the road into this dude's garden so I have been very busy.
From what I remember from the first few replies it sounds like I overpowered them (and no I'm not taking sides with the two dudes that were fighting). It is slightly embarressing considering I have been doin this for 2 years but on the other hand I am feeding my IDQ with a 1300Wrms amp so I feel better, haha. So what I remember back in the day is that once a coil starts being fried it doesn't stop even if you are feeding it properly, is that correct? because these speakers MUST get me through my first year of college and I hope they do because they sound amazing compared to anything else I have used. |

Perhaps it's time to re-ban the member that thinks he knows it all, and gets insulting when other, wiser members try to correct his mis-information. There is really no such thing as a "square" wave. There are only sine waves. A "square' wave is simply the combination of the original note and all the harmonics of that note, at the same amplitude. That's why tweeters burn out from clipping. During normal listening, a tweeter will handle around 10% of the power given to the speaker. That means that on a 100 watt speaker, the tweeter will handle 10 watts or less. Feed that speaker a "clipped" signal from a 20 watt deck, and a full 20 watts will burn the tweeter. The only way a 100 watt speaker will blow with a "clipped" 50 watt amp, is if the speaker is really not 100 watts, or the mechanical limits are exceeded. Nice try tho tg989....now go away and study some more...or better yet, just go away. My challenge is still open, somebody provide me with an amp rated for 100wrms and a sub rated for 200wrms and I'll cook the sub. anybody? |
LSpade69 - you are correct, a speaker cannot 'heal' itself. If you've warped the coil from abuse or weakened it, that's the way it will stay regardless of how you treat it now. Likely it will get worse.
To the arguees - you guys are amusing. You're saying essentially the same thing but won't conceed eachother's perception of what is happening. |
