Typically isobarics are used to keep box volume down and this type would be good for power handling and lower frequency response.

The principal reason to clamshell woofers that way, is if one woofer's motor alone, cannot make much xmax...


whoever built that box probably would have been further ahead to make a regular sealed or ported box if you ask me.....

Those designs are pretty complicated to pull off. A basic ported box probably would be easier to pull off and more efficient too.

Isobaric 4th order bandpass - 3 chamber design.

Basically a 4th order bandpass, the isobarrick part increases the liniarity of the drivers, but you need double the subs, and really double the power.

Isobaric used to be used alot back when woofers needed huge box's as doing an Iso system cut the box volume down around 50%. With the newer woofers not needing as big of a box not as much need. But if you wanted to run a 4 woofer bandpass like that one you got a pic of, it would keep the box alot smaller :)

I had one Isobaric system - 2 MTX Bluethunder 10's - it sounded awesome, hit very low nicely. Popped 1 of the subs, redid the box for just 1 10" Ported, didn't sound as good, or go as low, so ya it works. Most people avoid as they don't know how to design them, the need 2x the power and 2x the woofer cost.

Who built

those are kind of obsolete these days...with 15" subs able to be placed in 1.5 cubes and still hitting low...kind of hard to justify building one. Would be a nice project though.

Just so people would go "what the heck" and talk about the crazy box they saw... especially with 4 15's !!

Why not make it a bit more complicated and throw a transmission line in there too. You could just wrap it around the outside of the box!
