i need to know what size are the speakers in the car

veeman 12-14-2005 10:54 PM

6x8, front and rear doors according to the crutchfield site. Seems to make sense, since Ford and Mazda love to use 5x7 and 6x8 speaks.

zzzzzzz 12-15-2005 09:34 AM

can i get a jig to get 5 1/4 or 6 1/1 speakers in that 6x8 speaker spot or do i need to make one

adaptors are available, try future shop's install bay or any other car audio install shop.

Best bet is to make them out of 1/4" abs or plexiglass due to the amount of moisture that we receive here. You can fit a oversize 6.5" in the new mount if you have a pointsource type tweeter or a second tweeter mounting location. Failing that a 5.25" + tweeter on the plate.

^ Excellent advice. Door adaptors should be made from a water resistant material like ABS.

I just did an install just like this in a 06 Mazda 3...

I made adaptors from 1/4" ABS(as Dukk suggested)...

I know they arent the best looking and kinda odd shaped, but they worked perfect...

It takes a small amount of modding to the door mounting to fit the 6.5 in, but nothing 2 secs with a Dremil couldnt fix...

^^^ nice work! I just hate to see huge MDF baffles used in the door, just waiting to rot...

/\/\Thanks Man!!

I am curious why they are octagons and not the shape of the speaker.

MR2NR 12-16-2005 02:07 PM

He was going to paint them red and stop right there perhaps....

<EDIT> You guys should see the beaut that just came from a shop in Alberta somewhere....yikes.
They deadened only the inner door skin and not the big metal gong outside skin. The F350 is a mighty large door. Next the crossovers were inside of the door right where water can flow onto them. Next they carved up the metal of the door to mount the type R mid into the top and butcher out the bottom to mount the tweeter. Only the tweeter was mounted to a crescent shaped chunk of mdf and attached to the door. Mid was attached with 3 coarse thread drywall screws and all of the metal shrapnel was left to rust in the bottom of the door where the water collects. I'll post some pics later on once I figure out how to. God do I hope that this was not done by someone on this site....maybe I am just picky though.

No...they actually started out a lot more round, but made them to big..so I started trimming them down where needed...and voila!Stop sign speaker adaptors!!LOL

All I know is they wound up being a perfect fit and thats all that mattered in my books... :D
