What up, total new kid here.

Yo guys totally new to the scene, just got my g2 and first car (97 sunfire 4dr)

i want to upgrade the current system (most of the stock speakers are blown) and throw in some subs that kick reasonably well.. i need a new headunit for sure..

i have a budget of about 250-350-400 for everything... is this unreasonable? i want a decent sounding system that won't break the bank.

if there is a post already about basics of car audio, a link would be dope... i can wire it all up myself unless you guys have some suggestions....

let me know what you guys would do i would love to get her up and running soon.

well on your budget id start out with new front speakers and, or a deck, which ever is needing to be replaced more. if your looking for value but want new products id recomend getting somthing like infinity or mtx, both can be found on sale for pretty good prices, as for a deck, you dont realy need to spend a lot of money to have a good working deck, you can usualy find one on sale at futureshop for around 100-150, look at their features, dont worry about which one flashes the most, trust me. from there you can get your hands on some rear speakers and get sucked further into the car audio quick sand :smilie_da

hahaha, so true,

anyway, try looking for used stuff if you want to be really thrifty, although i would stray away from used speakers due to unknown usage, amps however i have yet to have a problem with used, just upgrade your front speakers for now, unless your always sitting in the back of your car then i see no need for rears, mine are always off and are crap anyway.

also check out the12volt.com for wiring stuff

oh god you have no idea!

yeah, I'd suggest with that budget you hold off on the subs for a bit. get a deck and some components maybe for the front, the sub/amp thing will usually run you 300+ just to start.

Oh, don't forget to price out all your installation accessories too. Not just the install kit, but your harness adapter, some heatshrink tubing, speaker wire, fuse, ect. It can really add up in a basic install, and if you don't plan for it it'll bite you in the rear.

man i bought super cheap off ebay, but got decent stuff and it was just over 300 for the sub and amp, but then you have to think wiring and a box and the odds and ends... expect about 500 to get bump in da trunk...

cool thanks guys that helps alot

as for decks, should i look at getting one with a low-end output (for subs or w/e its called) or just a regular old one and then get one of those converter things later on?

front doors are 4x6 and rears are 6x9
any single din deck will work with the dorrect mounting kit. since you are just getting into it with a tight budget, i suggest getting used stuff whereever possible and starting off with beginner level gear. lets face it there is no "do it right the first time" when you are on a tight budget. get yourself any deck that has at least one rca preout and preferably something with built in crossovers (though its not the end of the world if you dont get one). dont waste your time with the brands at wal mart or canadian tire. stick to the budget level stuff frrom sony pioneer or kenwood and spend the rest on front and rear speakers. buy a sub later on. definitly get a deck and at least front speakers first.

even though your cars fronts are 4x6 you can easily fit 5.25 and even 6.5 rounds in there with some modding. if you just want to keep it simple, you can get 4x6 and 6x9 just about anywhere.

i wouldnt bother with that first auction, the seller has no feedback and the second one... well you will be replacing that one in no time. its cheap for a reason
