What would it take...

One thing that can keep people from competing is the lack of local shows. People in Huntsville or Calgary and Edmonton have little excuse. There needs to be more shows in places like Lethbridge, Red Deer, etc. For people Like Bryce Lindseth (Bootlegguy) his travel expenses I am sure almost equalled his investment in his system.for this year.
Or how about Rob, he surely spent more money competing than on his system. Not only that but if you are travelling there is time lost at work which equals more money lost.

I agree, need to get the word out on shows..I would gladly hold several shows per year..if it gets the people out to have fun I would do one every second weekend... my problem is ...around my shop there is a residential area within 100 ft
if I hold a show everyone would have to be silenced as for tuning ... the only time the system could be played would be during the testing with all openings closed... and most of all the neighborhood would have to be involved..instead of the neighbors sitting at home and crying and calling bylaw... they need to come out to watch and see what the noise is all about... in this area (Kitchener, Ontario) there is a 24 hr noise bylaw wich really sucks a$$
so make noise during an event and you're gonna get busted... i've already been refused a permit to hold a show at my shop... been competing for about 8 years now and always had entry level equipment... holding almost 200 trophies in all place 1st,2nd and 3rd sometimes none...but its all the great memories and watching the excitement, the amazing installs ppl come up with... still keeps me goin even though I own a shop now
keep it loud, let the americans know were alive !

i think that if the spl & sq events were run at the same venue, it will be more inviting to a wider variety of spectator/competitor.also being in conjunction with show & shines works for atracting the general public to the fun side of auto sound.spl clinics/all nighters, lol i set a goal for myself this year and acomplished it,and put huge miles on the colt this year, and the time away from work was worth a tidy sum.but the people i've met and enjoyed the company of, made it an experience i will never forget.i have no regrets & i will try my hardest to make it a sucessful year for others as well as myself, lets keep it fun!!

We need to show people that you don't need tons of cash to compete. Tis winter I'm building a system for a bud for next years IASCA season. Using a older pioneer, 4 channel amp, deck well do some good used components in some kicks and 8's some door pods if we have the time and money. But that would also require a decent active xover.
But my point is, it's all in the install. If you set up Average Equipment just right in a clean install you can compete at my level.
Not everyone has the gear I do, nor does everyone need it. The average guy that wants to be able to do a few shows, like my buddy doesn't need an EQ. The Mini doesn't even have an EQ, it went to World Finals and held it's own.
I think there is also some problem that people don't want to bother competing unless they are going to win.
Well, I won my first 2 shows when I was half-assing it, and Mike comes along and makes me work to beat him. I spent hours every week in my car tuning, getting in and out adjusting the eq's trying to beat him. My car was in Experts once a week all season just making small tweaks and every show I was that much closer. But this made it fun. We didn't throw darts at a picture of Mike on the shop wall, I was shooting for something. Every show you learn. I went to every IASCA sound off I knew about, and the Fuel, Food, and time off work aren't cheap by any means. Robby, Steve, ETC. both know what I mean. I will compete at every show I can next year, SVR and SBN hopefully. This is all true wheather your SQ or SPL.
I think more people need to see what IASCA and dB drag is all about. I'm sure I have a better chance getting people I know into iDBL and dBdrag simply because many kids only care about bass. Which is fine, if they have a decent sub and amp and can build the right box they should definatly try out.
I doubt I will compete at International Stereo's competition but I will be there with Steve to the word about IASCA and dB drag to let people knwo there is more shows out there. I don't think bikini girls are the answear. I certainly don't mind them but I know it doesn't bring competitors, only local guys that wanna see half-naked chicks. I am happy to help the fresh competitor, everyone should be.
Sorry for talking so much, but my my system and IASCA was my biggest thing all summer all the way through to world finals.

PS. it does not take alot of money to COMPETE, but it takes TONS of cash to be COMPETATIVE.
