Whats with Alpine and the 2-band EQ's????

Anyone else notice that most of the newer Alpine decks only come with 2-band EQ's. Treble and bass.

I remember having this on the 9885 that I used to own, and with a 2-band EQ it basically gives you zero sound adjustment.

I see one of there new 2010 models there is a 5-band parametric/7-band graphic EQ, the CDA-117Ri.

Any of there other new HU's it's only treble and bass adjustment. I find this pretty crappy, what are your opinions?

I own a cda 9886 and its the same thing, only treble and bass. i think they are trying to force the buyer into getting the imprint unit.

that's lame...

can't remember how many bands are on my EQ

i have one as well and it's not just trebel and bass. You can adjust a "range" of frequency at the same time. e.g. you can boost the 60Hz frequency but it will also boost 40 and 80 somewhat. It uses the "Q" range. I will agree though it's still lacking accurate adjustment without the imprint. I do know of some one who owns imprint......

They should of added at least a 3-band EQ with presets like a lot of other brands have :sly:

meh, i just leave everything at 0 anyways, and the MX thing off. but then again, im no sq guy, ill just be happy if i can hear some music and vocals through all the bass lol. i see where the lack of better EQ control would be a bummer though

I would say you hit the nail right on the head!

I'm a little disappointed with Alpine's new fare, especially after steller head units like 2004's cda-9835/33 with their bass engine pro sound processor that had everything except a refridgerator. I'd like to see a new version of F#1 or similar to compete with the pioneer ODR stuff, and even though I think the 9887 is a nice head in it's price range, 24bit dac's are getting much cheaper now and really aren't that big of deal anymore. Hell, I think Kenwood x693 at 150.00-250.00 has 24 bit dac's now. I like tuning, so for me, the more options the better...even if they are rarely needed or used.

I figure, if you like to fiddle, just pickup a good processor and then you don't have to worry about what the deck has. Alpine H700/701 or a Bit One, something like that.

Yeah it seems the company has went cheaper and cheaper with new produts, It's a real shame because I find it harder to find a HU that fits my needs.

It's too bad, Alpine's look is great and they are easy to use...but just don't have the features anymore.
