Whats the difference?

Between a slot port and a round port.

Father Yuli 03-11-2008 01:47 AM

a round port is round

red rocket 03-11-2008 01:49 AM

I knew that was coming but I figured I'd get one real response first

Team Ricco 2 03-11-2008 01:53 AM

how much more real do you want it? Yuli is the smartest fellow on this here site. He speaks the truth.

Jo-Psyko 03-11-2008 07:28 AM

yeah thats really all there is to it.. now if you were to ask whats the difference between an areo port (round with flared ends) and a slot port.... youd get the same answer with an 'areo ports flow better' thrown in.....

Father Yuli 03-11-2008 11:41 AM

there is really no difference. one is not any better than the other. how's that for a real answer?

red rocket 03-11-2008 02:36 PM

Works for me for a real answer

It's generally "easier" to do a slot port because you can go top to bottom which then acts as a brace. Round, (if you're not using an aero port) you need to find a piece of tubing and then affix it to the box.
Some like round because it's easier to do multiple ports (say one on each side of the woofer compared to one large slot port) so it "looks better".
Sound wise there is no difference.

A round port will have a bit less drag then a slot port with an equal cross sectional area...

probably not a concearn in most cases, but it's worth noting....

Thanks that does clear things up, I thought maybe the slots were better cuz I see more people using them, round seems easier to build to me.
