When a deck says it is "ipod ready," does that include mp3 players?

my deck (the Pioneer DEHP500UB) has ipod control, but i would like to buy the Cowon D2 instead of an ipod for use in my car. Will this mp3 player work with the ipod control?

IF it has an Aux input, then I would assume that would work, but the Ipod connection most likely would not work(control wise)

nevermind, i think ive figured it out. All i need to do is get a aux cable and run it from the cowon to the back of my deck, then press play on the cowon and it should work right?

Just curious why you decided to go with a Cowon player. I would really like a Cowon iAudio 7 myself.

Yes, Aux input and turn on the unit, it will play through the Pioneer!

some guy on another forum convinced me to go for it. Originally i had never even heard of cowon and was going to get the creative zen, but he pointed it out and said it was better for my needs (ill list what i said below). After a bit of research i decided it was a better player, so this thread was the last thing i needed to get checked out.

what i need it to be able to do:
1) i use linux
2) it needs to be able to be used as a portable hard drive to store any type of file (it doesnt need to be able to access them though)
3) needs to have 25GB or more storage [i know the cowon doesnt have 25gb or more, but since its got that sd card slot its ok for me]
4) it will be used in my car primarily so looks and appearance are completely unimportant
5) having rockbox support is a plus
6) the OS installed on it needs to be speedy and well organized (i cant drive and stare at a screen )

I've got the Creative Zen. It's a great player but the only way to have lossless audio is to load wav files. I don't mind the space they take up but there are no tags. I'd really like a Cowon for the flac support.
