Where Can I Get A Big Alternator?!?
 

Im running 2 solox 18s off 2 xtr pro 2400s. Got 2 yellow tops in the back and 1 crappy tire spiral cell under the hood. Got the big 3 done but obviously the stock alt cant do ish keep up with the demand. You guys know any shops that can rebuild my stock alt or supply any high output alts? Im looking for at least 220 amp. Any other advice is welcome too, maybe adding a second alt or throwing in some caps!

try knukonceptz, or mean green. knu most likely has a direct bolt on, that is at least 175amps or so and they go for cheap compared to the rest. they quoted me 275us + 40 shipping duties, and brokerage included for my neon. was i think 170amp, direct replacement.

i cannot say enough good things about this guy....HE KNOWS HIS STUFF!!!
i searched for someone to build me a 200 amp alternator for my 90 accord and could find no one who had a direct bolt on that was bigger than 140-50ish.
i found people who would build it over the counter but then i would have to take it somewhere else to have the custom brackets made and have it installed and that was if it fit around everything under my hood.

i called mechman and he knew off the top of his head how many grooves were on my factory alternator belt and that with a 30mm spacer i would be able to line my alternator belt up to his 6 groove pulley on the alternator and that he could use a large ford alternator case with a custom bracket that made it bolt right up perfectly
i was very impressed with his knowledge.

i purchased one and had it bench tested here locally, the guy his pants when it hit 220 amps before it stalled out his test bench.

i was even more impressed when i inquired if i could move it over to my 98 4runner. "sure, i have a custom bracket and different pulley i can send ya that will make it bolt right on, ditch the spacer and i will send you the new voltage regulator that will plug into your 4runner".

did i mention "he knows his stuff"!!!!

on top of all that he also knew off the top of his head that i would also need to install a capacitor into my factory voltage regulator harness to keep a check engine or charge indicator light from coming on
(something that had to do with my car being canadian and not american and and the use of "running lights")

and to top it all, the strong canadian dollar makes it worthwhile to shop south.

it's hard to find guys that know their stuff like him and 100% recommend him

I am afraid my selections dont really meet your desires, I have seen great stuff from Ohio Generator, Powermaster (interesting web site), and Iraggi are all US companies. There are always good local folks but car audio can be a little unique eh!

also try contacting LoudBrownKickerColt who is a member of this board, he got me a 200A alt for my car, based out of Calgary.

I've got a 00 sunfire GT with a stock alt, and a Visonik V900XD is going in there (1500W @ 14V), what size alternator should I be looking at? Where is there a good builder in the Hamilton to St.Catharines area? How long does it take to switch out an alt? Any idea on labour costs? How many amps does a bolt-on alt go up to? Thanks :sly: .

i just dug up my reciept....it was $580.60 U.S.D.
at the time i think it came to close to 900.00 after exchange but that was in dec of 1999 when the canadian dollar was worth about as much as dirt.
with the exchange now you'd probably be around 600 and tax.
transaction was awesome, i phoned him with a credit card number and he had a tracking number for me the same say arrived within a few days and oddly enough i didn't even have to pay any duty to customs. (i wasn't about to call and ask them why)
alternator arrived in around 4 business days or so (depends on your preference for shipping)
it's still going strong in my 4runner to this day.
also if you are into the competition scene, he used to polish the aluminum case for that killer chrome look for an extra charge.
