Where are these "amazing deals" at Pawn Shops?

So I keep hearing about people picking up equipment at pawn shops for ridiculous prices. So just out of curiosity I was driving by and I decided to stop by a local cash converters.
I walked in and took a look at the stuff they were selling. Here are some prices...
-Generic Q-Logic sealed box with an older 15" RF Punch HE for $299.
2 12" Alpine ZRs in a crappy sealed box... $399.
-Three silver-red Pioneer 10" IMPPs in a ****ty plywood box for $349.
-one 12" PG Tantrum in a generic 1.25CF sealed box... $289.
WTF are these people smoking? Trying to sell off 5-10 year old equipment for prices that are 3-4 times overinflated that what they should really cost.
So I ask you... Is that what the pawn shops around your area are like or are these some that actually have fair prices? (I'm not in need of equipment but I decided to stop by and check it out and these finding were kind of shocking).

just bought a kenwood kac923 for 50 bucks, a killer deal on the last really good amps that kenwood made, all of my old zapco studio and z series amps were all bought at pawn shops. you have to negotiate with the people there, most of the time they are clueless, when i just got that kenwood amp the guy asked me why i wanted to buy it because it was only 100 watts, when actually, its 100 conservatively rated watts per channel, 2ohm mono stable, fan cooled and was 800 retail when new

I bought a Ground Zero Radioactive 15, in a box for $50, I also bought two Kicker Solobaric 12" 's for $50, both from the same place.
There are some CRAZY deals to be had, if you know where to look, like at the Calgary Police Auction, you can get some awesome amps sometimes, for just peanuts. Like I bought my old Kicker ZR240 for $80 there. I know a guy that bought a $2500 McIntosh amp for $50, and a Kove Armeggedon Z-15, and a Z series 1000 watt amp for $75. From that same auction. Plus many more deals, but Im tired, and wont list them. I gotta hit the sack pretty soon, big day tommorow.
Its all in knowing the right places to go. Some places in Calgary are stupidly overpriced. Those prices in Edmonton are absurd. There are places like that here too. You just have to look around. There are many good places, if you are willing to look. Cash Converters sometimes has some good deals, but rarely.

Youve got to love it when pawn shops sell used gear for more then it cost when it was brand new... Or when they put a huge markup on the crap brand from china they carry...
Ive never had much luck at pawn shops... I know a few that have fair prices, but none with really good prices....
