Wheres the cheapest.. place to buy online..

I want to buy a alpine sub and amp.. in canada but cluthfield is hella expensive..

Any suggestions?

MR2NR 01-16-2009 07:46 PM

I am not at home to check my msn replies, I will be there shortly. Have you answered the questions yet? I need those answered before I can figure out what it is you need.

sirux 01-16-2009 07:47 PM

I'm really just going to stick with that alpine sub and amp if possible.

Sikk Nation 01-16-2009 08:21 PM

Buy from local retailer. Most independant shops have very competetive pricing. It's cheaper in the long too o anything ever needs service.

Father Yuli 01-17-2009 02:23 AM

your....local......retailer......lol

Spun 01-17-2009 03:18 AM

I don't think its canadian but Woofersetc.com is the cheapest place I know.
You looking for Alpine?
12" Type R, dual 4 ohm for $129.00
Alpine SWR-1242D - Alpine 12" Type R 1500W Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer
An amp to run it (MRP-M500) for $159.00
Alpine MRP-M500 - Alpine Mono 500W subwoofer amplifier

sirux 01-17-2009 03:47 AM

Yeah they're based in California.. but thanks anyways bud..

Kickinitoldfool 01-17-2009 06:49 AM

Man listen to the crowd bro, check local retailers first. Right now dealers are clearing out 2008 gear to make way for 2009 stuff. I was once wrapped up in online gear and quickly learned that there is no substitution for walk in service at a good dealer not to mention the little extras they give ya eg POP, SERVICE, WARRANTY WORK and Free advice. May be $100 less online but wait till they tell you to ship a defective sub to CA for warranty work at your cost.

G-MONEY 01-17-2009 01:46 PM

I have an idea....how about asking all the online stores, where the cheapest place to buy is ???

Instead of asking all these local businesses who will give you support, install it properly, and give you a FAIR deal....

...if not, they wont be around next time you need something, or nead technical advise, etc....SCREW the online guys.....thats whats killing Car Audio, both on quality of products and good custom shops....

SERIOUSLY.....it cracks me up that people have the nerve to waste other peoples time, in order to save a BUCK !!
If you ask for help, support the guys that are willing to give it to you....

sonicelectronix.com

fairly cheap shipping to canada

Tom.F.1 01-18-2009 01:09 AM

UPS's brokerage charge has gone up to 50 bux, plus GST. Plus the exchange on the canadian to US. Really not worth it to buy online from the US.
I just bought 2 Kicker 07CVR15.4. $119.95 each sounded good. plus $69 shipping.
$309 US cost me $375 canadian, $15 to send the money order. $95 broker & GST. Total $485.
From my local kicker dealer, $311 each, plus tax. Total $702. Oops, I saved $215 bux.
spent 215 on wood, glue, paint, sandpaper, hardware, terminals, polyfil, grillcloth and wire.

Kickinitoldfool 01-18-2009 08:25 AM

Those subs can be had in Canada for around $250-260 if you hit the right dealer at the right time.

AAAAAAA 01-18-2009 09:18 AM

TOMF1, if possible ask for USPS shipping, it is a bit more expensive but you save on brokerage.

A site like sonicelectronix has good prices and lots of product, I have baught many times from there as well as partsexpress, however if you look around there are deals to be had here in Canada. My last 3 purchases have been here and I ended up with a better price then online. Well one was a canadian online purchase.

Even if I got a really great deal, (which could only be had as part of a large package), $250 each plus tax is $565. $80 bux more than I paid!!

I have nothing against local shops, I would rather buy local and in person. But the canadian shops are being screwed by the importers and distributors.
Kicker products in Canada are bought from the US, even though they are made in China.

Sorry for the rant, I think we've been through all these discussions before.

sirux 01-18-2009 09:30 AM

I emailed all the local retailers and they gave me a price $250 more than online.. and thats without tax.

No No totally understand what you are saying and in some respects its the distributor it self. As soon as they know they have a great brand and lock it in for Canada they put so much mark up on it. At the end of the day they are screwing themselves for long term growth.

Is that before you pay shipping and brokerage and duties? If so even if it turned out to be $100-150 more to buy here. Well worth it! If you have a amp worth some money and you get a solid warranty and help from a local shop that is the money well spent IMO.

And AAAAAAA was right brokerage through USPS is only $5, if you do order US get USPS for shipping.

USPS sucks. Things go missing very quickly. It's the same as canada post.

AAAAAAA 01-18-2009 02:06 PM

^ The trick, especially when buying "exotic" or rare used stuff, is to ask the seller to put the item description as "used electronics" and not something like car amplifier or Zapco C2K hehehe.

MR2NR 01-18-2009 04:57 PM

I ship Canada Post all the time, I always ship insured and signature required. I have had one item go missing and the proof of delivery is what saved the day. For the products I ship, Canada Post works great and I am sure that the people on the forum who have done business with me will agree.

For those of you who are purchasing in the US and don't value what the CDN market has to offer for support, why not ask the US guy that took your money for help when you are having problems instead of coming to a site and taking information...... I might not be able to sell products to everyone and to the OP, I will not sell to you even if I had what you are looking for at the best price on the planet until you answer the questions I asked (otherwise there is no guarantee that I have done my job properly). I help many more people on a everyday basis and have for years. I guess there are those of you out there who place absolutely no value at all in what the CDN marketplace has to offer you. Try us, some of us are here to work with you, not against you and explain things to you so that you can learn from it as well.

SID0001 01-18-2009 06:55 PM

holy crap This boils down to one thing...money.
Not supporting the canadian market.
He wants it cheap and online or across the border is the only way to go. I'm sure he supports the canadian market in tons of other ways, why does he have to pay the high car audio prices?
I want a kick ass system..what if I bought it all either used or from the states and had a local shop install it? would that be wrong of me? I may be able to put a decent system together with this method but sure as hell can't(well, probably could but would take alot longer and cost more) afford it.(I'm on the tightest budget with a 2 year old)

People are making it sound like he's asking vendors on this site...but sorry guys there are alot of non vendors on this site that im sure have purchased through a online store.

It's pretty obvious, If he's going to buy online, He can pretty much kiss goodbye any "free" help from the distributer.

I want to know what the intentions are ie. are they installing the gear themselves(possibly having a local place do it)

Maybe they've installed before and don't need a local shop to do it...maybe been through that already and have already"supported the canadian market"

SID0001 01-18-2009 06:59 PM

oh and check out onlinecarstereo.com
they're in cali but seem to have a good shipping deal with purchases over a said amount.

geminifball 01-18-2009 08:19 PM

I don't know about you guys but I can't find a local retailer worth talking to anymore. It might just be my location but for me it's just BS after BS. I really don't want to support these guys anymore.

I guess I'd say bottomline, support those that support you. If your local retailer doesn't support you then f**k em

AyZe 01-19-2009 02:11 AM

I have only purchased one thing from a shop ,a set of t112d4's , back wen i knew absolutly nothing ,I simply said to the guy what will work with my amp and not put it to waste. Sad part is mr sales man was soooo helpful he told me to wire them down to 1 ohm after me telling him i had a ZX 1500.1 (only 2ohm stable,They where also a Kicker dealer aswell which really made me think WTF later down the road), he drew me a nice diagram and everything , so i took my prefab box and my nice subs home wired them up(1 ohm final) and a few days later my amp went smokie smokie......

@ that time i didnt know how or why it happened , i just knew my stereo didnt work no more.

not saying shops are bad , just my single and only experience cost me alot of money , but i did start to learn fast after that tho.
So as far as saying go to a shop they will help u more etc etc? Maybe at some or alot , just hope u dont bump into a guy like i got , who see's nothing more than a clueless guy with money.

Sikk Nation 01-19-2009 10:26 AM

you should have went bck to that shop, with the drawing and spoke to the owner. Like all businesses, good staff is the hardest thing to find

I agree, don't bad mouth independant dealers as a whole.. we are the people that drive the market and make things work. Some dealers are douchebags who offer little in service and are just out there to make alot of money. They tend to forget about service and just go for sales. These are the guys that are hurting in this economic slowdown, so they are likely to get worse as they get more desperate for sales.

You have to find a good shop and once you do, you'll actully walk out of there with a smile every time.
