Installed a full system in a buddies 2003 Civic Sir last week.

Clarion Head unit, to in dash Kenwood EQ, then runs to Hifonics 150 X 2 rms highs amp then 1000 watt class D hifonics sub amp. The gains are unusually high for some reason, around 3/4 to get any decent sound out of the system, but there is some alt whine when there up this high. I rtan rcas and left side speaker wire down drivers side, and power and right speaker wire + remote down passanger side just to rule out any issues even though it doens't matter that much.

Grounds are fine, grounded to a bolt behind the seat, stripped down paint etc, both amps are grounded to same spot. Head unit and EQ ground are attched to the factory harness, would grounding directly to the battery help?

I think the voltage on the clarion is only 2 volt or so, and the kenwood eq says 4 v but the gain on it is around 3/4 and doens't do very much at all.

Would a line driver help in this, or should we wait untill he gets his new clarion deck with supposed 4volt out.

I'd say use a line driver, or a deck with known 4V+ RCA out. I figure the amps themselves are letting the noise in.
