Sorry to dig up an old post but I think that the old school guys will appreciate my find.

I found some amps that are pretty rare and especially rare to find new in the boxes. I will be picking these amps up for the front end setup in my new daily driver next month.

Tha amps are Blade Grenade series twin monoblocks. I cant find specs for them on the net anywhere nor are there any pics. As soon as I have them in my possesion I will post pics.

just found my 25 yr old Fosgate amp from storage......... I bought this new back in 1980-1. It puts out 4x50W rms, damping factor >1000, Slew rate 60. max input 10volts, phamton power out 18+/- volts. (for outboard preamps)

^ That was about a decade before the Series 1 amps were introduced. They came out in 92 if I remember right. I had a 2060sd in the girlfriend's car back then..

ah the good ole days of car audio when amps were amps and they did more than they said they did.

Ahh yes the days when high current amps were king and all amps got insanely hot.

My favourite amps of all time are the early gens of the Orion HCCA, more specifically the Digital Reference era. No on board crossovers, no subsonic filters(no one knew about porting back then LOL)and you needed a RBG1 module to bridge the damn thing. Just a true amplifier with a single potentiometer for gain and that's it.

The HCCA 250 for example was rated at 2x50 into 4 ohm, but load that sucker down to 1 ohm mono(if you had the module) or .5 ohm stereo and she made appx. 800 RMS and sounded good while doing it.

The HCCA amps were always sweet no matter what gen it was, until DEI bought A/D/S and killed a legend when they shut down the Orion build house in Tempe Arizona and discontinued the HCCA line for China built D class amps.

Sorry for the rant but it just isn't like it used to be.

Those are the coolest amps Sony ever made. And they are a total departure from what you would think a Sony amp would be. Although the Mobile ES was nice stuff too.

Were those pics of the previous Sony reps here in BC? He had two and just recently sold them. Those things are indeed very rare.

Joe, love the pic of the ancient Punch amp. Thats amazing you still have that thing. Its an heirloom! What did you pay for that thing back then? Still suprises me there was audio like that back before like 1987 :p
