Hlo again all, just doing some research on some more stuff. Im pricing out new cars and im also doing research into speakers that will fit into stock locations on certain vehicles.

Whats anyone's take on the JL XR series components, and which manufacturer proides them with these (unless htey are made in house?)

They make a certain co-axial that fits into 6.5" locations on a few cars im looking at, thats why I ask!

I have a feeling not too many vehicles allow Focal UTopia's in stock locations

They are made in Germany. Dr Kurt Mueller there is involved in either the design, manufacture or both.

I have the XR 650 CSI comps and love them.

You have a nice setup Perry B. Question, why did you choose the 12w6 as opposed to the newer w7? Money, or just not worth the extra $$$

As well, does 500 Watts on it give it more then enough jam to match the system? I was thinking a 10" with a smaller box for trunk room. I play a lot of hockey and dont wanna lose valuable trunk space!

I feel your pain, except with Golf. I've had to resort to putting my clubs down on the folded down back seat, cause the trunk is full now.

Thanks for the kind words. The w7 isn't newer than the W6v2 afaik.

I am not a bass freak at all so why spend $$$ on a W7(plus I got an INSANE deal on the 12W6V2). Manville Smith of JL has also stated that UP to 500 watts, he thinks the W6V2 is a better fit.

It is everything I need/want in a sub.

Interesting!

So basically you have enough headroom to play at decent volumes with that sub and the 500 watts matched by your components?

I am not a basshead nor do I pound music to crazily, BUT, on occasion I toss on some of my old 80's metal, and I love to crank it! (Crue, Wasp, Ratt, etc)

The JL amps look really nice, although im not sure if I wanna spend the premium on them, a simple 4 chan + 500 Class D may suffice! Ive heard the JL amps are top notch, nice and easy in terms of their ability to adapt to various ohm loads, but you pay for it. Do you feel they are worth the price of admission?

Well, I think they are worth the money, but I did get great deals on my JL amps though(I got the 300/2, used for 3 months, for US$150). I am sure you could find cheaper amps to run your setup. If you like the JL amp setup, the flexibility they offer(xovers, etc), and can find a price you like, I say go for it.

I rarely crank my system, but when I do, it is more than loud enough for me.
