Why aren't subs hitting hard
I have two 12" Hifonics xxv Olympus subs in a big box (3200watts peak each) powered by an autotek 4050.1 amp
why aren't my subs hitting as hard as they should all my gain controls are cranked and I'm running 1ohm to the amp I was running two type r alpines in the same set up and it was so loud it rattled glass in buildings near me So why aren't these better subs hitting as hard |
Couple reasons why this wouldn't sound "better".
1.the box if the box is the same one as the type R's, that's the first mistake. Looks like the HiFonics need about double the space in a sealed or ported enclosure. I compared the specs. 2.DB Sensitivity The HiFonics are less sensitive then the Alpines so would require more power(even if both were rated the same, which I know they are not)to run; so if you are using the same amp, you will get less performance out of it then you did before. 3.Wired for 1ohm If both of these subs are dual voice coil 2ohms like you mentioned, they can only be wired, safely, for 0.5ohm, 2ohm, or 8ohm. Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams, Two 2 ohm Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Speakers If it doesn't show you the 3 configurations, then fill in what you have. If that is the case, your amp is either falling apart at 0.5ohm, giving some power at 2ohm or giving you nothing at 8ohm. So in none of theses cases would your newer set up sound "better" then the previous. 4.amp I looked it up quickly and it states 1000w@4ohms,2000W@2ohms,4000w@1ohm. First of all, I doubt it. second of all there is no 0.5ohm rating so your subs aren't getting the 3200watts RMS they are rated for. Coupled with a low sensitivity, they are getting nothing. Now if that amp was running the type r's, then that may well explain why they sounded "better". Better sensitivity Better match for ohms Better power supply Hope this helps. |
