Hey everyone. New here.

I'm just setting up my stereo, and am looking for a sub(s) that will work with the amp i'll be using for bass...a phoenix gold qx900.1d

Its rated for 1100 watts rms @2ohm.

How about 3x12" 4 ohm dvc Hertz hx300d subs @600 watt rms each.

Any opinions on these subs? Or any suggestions on a better setup?

Its going in a 2000 honda civic coupe...I don't care about trunk space.

Really not sure if this setup could be wired for that amp.

My other option would be possibly 2xJl 12w7

but im open to whatever would be best! I'm really trying to go for sound quality with the rest of the components I've got but I also want decent spl's as long as they are clean.

 

I'd personally stick with two subs, and the I'd take the W6's over the W7's if you're looking for SQ > SPL but they wouldnt be my first choice either way.

While this is personal preference I really do love the sound of Pioneer subs, I've done side by side tests of quite a few different brands and the Pioneers always outperform (So long as you stay away from the audio section at wal-mart)

in D2 wired to 2Ohms with a little power on reserve these would sound teh very nice, yes?

This is assuming you want to stick with a more well known brand; In all fairness I've never listened to an Image Dynamics sub or some of the other more obscure brands. Maybe I'm missing out on something I haven't heard yet but Pioneer very rarely fails to impress me.

 

I ended up grabbing 2 x JL 10w7's

now my question is considering these are 3 ohm subs each....how would i best wire them to my phoenix gold qx900.1d for best output?

Wire them in parallel and hook em up. The amp will barely notice the .5ohm difference in the first place and impedance rise will take care of the rest of it once you fire the system up.

Get a correctly sized and tuned enclosure for those subs made, either by yourself if you can or pay a pro to do it....having spent the coin on the subs not doing the box right means you wasted the $$ you paid for them.

yeah for sure. i got them used with a box...but it was built ported, and the guy said it sounded like *** so he boarded up the port....so definately will be building a box.

so hooking them up parallel would mean what exactly? sorry for the noob questions...would that be simply + to + and - to - on the amp?

 

Parallel is +to+, -to-. Boarding up the port totally messes with box tuning, but if you're building a box to spec you'll be good to go.
