Will I blow my speakers?.
I have a set of kicker reference series component set in the front of my car and in the rear I have a pair of reference series 6.5 inch for rear fill. I used to have a Kenwood excelon x915, which had a built in crossover, so I had no worries. It got stolen and now I have an Alpine cda- 9813. I have to say that there is nothing like an alpine deck...no offence to whom ever doesnt have one, but I have owned a deck from every company out there and Alpine (in my opinion) is the best, hands down. Anyways, this deck does not have a cross over, so I am running the 6.5 without a cross over...will I blow the speaker?
Thanks for the help

I have owned an alpine, kenwood, clarion, sony, pioneer, jvc, and I am not one to buy low end stuff...all the stuff I have is high end, or was at one point. I have never had an eclipse though...maybe the next deck...if only they had built in mp3. I will take your word for it and hope they wont blow...they dont sound like they are distorting and I dont play music super loud like I used to.
Thanks for the help

To be honest...I have not been in car audio for a while...I used to be in it big time when I was younger...now I would rather spend the money on the car itself. The only reason I am putting this stuff in my car is because I already have it...I would not have gone and bought it. I looked into Nakamichi, Denon, and Eclipse, but I can justify spending all the money when I know I can get something from Alpine that will be comparable. In my opinion, there are overpriced...is the top of the line eclipse that much better, if at all, then the top of the line Alpine...I some how doubt it.
Like I said...I cant really talk all that much about car audio...havent been into it in about 5 years...just wanted to know if I would blow the speakers or not.

You won't doubt it at all once you put in the middle of the road Eclipse and it lays the smack down on the Alpine. For most people it is a drastically different change in tonal response. As far as the overpriced goes, here is something to consider. If all you can afford is a Chevy Sprint but you really want is a Cavalier, is the Cavalier overpriced? Is the vehicle bigger, larger engine, better safety, what about a Corvette, really pricy but what about the performance? Goes without saying that a Sprint or Cavalier would have a hard time keeping up with a Corvette. Eclipse is a different manufacturer, they do not build their equipment to hit the price point. Not saying that the garden variety meat and potatoes cd players that most people buy are bad, but make a fair comparison is all. One day take the time to audition one in your own vehicle. Take out the Alpine and install a CD3434 or CD5444, you will probably come out of it knowing something new.
I don't think tonal response has anything to do with it... 2 decks with no processing and the same power output will sound the same....
The rest is all in the features, customer service, reliability, ect...
Oh ya.... what are those kickers rated at ? I personally don't think you have anything to worry about unless you play 20hz test tones at full volume....

I'm not sure what they are rated, but I dont plan on going into competition and I dont play anything with really heavy base...I'm only 28, so I dont want to say that I am too old for really bassy stuff...but I guess that I am...I still listen to hip hop and top 40 stuff, but just not at crazy loud volumes...maybe I am getting old. In any case, about the decks...I used to be in huge with car audio...about 6 years ago and I was friends with one of the best, if not the best installers of all Canada and he had Alpine and Sony in his car...granted, he was was sponsered by them and what not, but he never talked about Nak or eclipse or what ever else. Like I said...I have not been in it in a long time and dont feel right about saying anything right now...I just dont find the need in spending that amount of money on a stereo...thats all.
