WinISD <-- my good lord
 

Well, I have been bored out of my mind since I got home today. I am waiting for my replacement subwoofer, my new amp from smartass, and replacement bearings for my mountain board which should all arrive before tuesday. SOO I started messing around with WinISD for about 3-4 hours. Ha, omg, I learned nothing, it is sooo confusing. I even read the help section but I think I just don't know enough about car audio to understand it.

Since noone seems interested in my brandspankin new untouched 10" orion H2 (still on sale and still untouched :))and I will finally have an amp to push it I want to make a ported box for it. But I am confused because the recomendations for the enclosure on WinISD are WAY WAY different from the ported enclosure specifications in the manual. Example: in the manual it recomends a 3" circular port that is 25" long but in WinISD it says it should be 13" long. WinISD also said that this sub would work way better in a sealed enclosure but I read a lot of reviews from companys that this sub kills in a ported box.

Also, what is the line on the graph supposed to look like????? I don't even know what I am looking at and it doesn't say anything in the help "manual" thingy. If this is easily explained PLEASE EXPLAIN IT :) !!!!!!! haha cuz I don't know what I am doin.

I too was bored and toyed with this program which then told me my jl 12"s needed 7.685 c' of airspace ?????????

H2's don't plot accurately on winISD. From the specs of the driver alone it looks like it would be suited solely for use in a large sealed enclosure to have any decent SQ from it. Personal experience (as well as from many others that have USED these drivers) know that the driver works best in small-medium ported applications and doesn't need a ton of port area.

Orion's eclosure recommendations are a bit small for optimal SQ and SPL in the ported designs though.

So do you think 25" port length is too long? Do you have the specs of air space and port size for the enclosure for a 10" orion h2??? Or know of anyplace that I could get these??? That would be awesome to know because I need something to do and building a sub box sounds like a grand idea to me. :thumbsup:

yeah that program through me for a loop as well and I can't get any help in the design forum.

umm, you do know that a 25" port could be great if your box was 2.5 ft/3 but may sound like if its only 1 ft/3. the port lenght.size has ALOT to do with how the box will sound. tunning hz ext.

go onto google,

seach ported sub boxes

and see if you can learn a bit before you start playin with that damn program.

I played with winisd before. when I didnt know (not that I know anymore now, haha) and it is confusing. start simple, google is your friend!!!

and remember, its just a program. what it says will not allways be right. there a quite a few variables that the program cannot acount for.
