Just came back from a road trip - and noticed that my alpine 7894 gets HELLA hot. I don't even use the internal amp - so i'm not exactly sure why it seems to get so hot, but sometimes it seemed as if it'd be skipping more when it was hot. Although, this coulda just been my mind sayin that.

Funny, My kenwood does the opposite. The colder it is the easier it skips. The dead of the winter is the worst and the heat of the summer is best for my HU.

you should check to see if your fan is blocked in the rear of your deck. i know my 9815 got hot sometimes, then i took it out and made sure the fan in the back was completely clear so it can get rid of the heat.

I had a 7894, pretty sure it doesn't have a fan. Do you have the Power IC turned off? Is the deck wired directly to the battery? Tried using a separate ground point insted of the harness one?

Skipping when cold makes sense, since the elastomer dampers stiffen up and absorb less vibration.
Though, if you get it hot enough, I am sure they could become too soft and not damp enough... |
I've owned tons of /////Alpines and still own one, when they get hot they actually never skip. As stated when they're cold thats where the problems occur. :(
If your HU is getting extremely hot, perhaps un install it, and look into giving it some breathing holes or venting it somehow, because it should get warm but not hella hot. |

cold weather also causes your car suspension to stiffen up as well

My last 3 alpine decks have got so hot I cannot even tough them after a 2-3 hour drive. Hasn't created any problems though.
