would my car explode
 

I got 2 2ohm DVC subs and was wanting to buy 2 more subs. But the new subs are 4 ohm DVC. So i would have a total of 4 subs is it possible or will my car explode.:dunno:

i've heard its bad to mix the the impedance of subs, but i could be wrong. if you put them on a separate amp then i don't see a problem. you might be able to get away with it on a multi channel amp, but even that i'm not entirely sure about. so thats my final answer. on the same amp its bad, on different amps its good. you should try to keep all your subs the same to make it easier to wire up. as for your car exploding, i don't think so, maybe your amp will explode though

Is it possible to get the new subs with the same voice coil resistance?

I don't think it would damage the amp if the final load was still within the amp's ability.

So long as your final impedance is good you shouldn't damage anything. You may actually lose performance though since one pair of subs will be moving half as much as th other pair which can cause odd cancellation waves,

it would work, but wouldnt work. like metioned above, 2 subs will be seen a different amount of power than the other 2 subs.

thats why i thought a multichannel amp would work, that way you can set different gains for each pair

Yeah your car will most likely explode ...make sure you are not locked inside without your keys when this happens.

It would be "better" if you had all the subs the same, but there is no reason having different ohms on each sub would matter.

All the amp cares about is the final load is sees.

If you only have 1 amp, you just have to make sure you wire the subs so that they're not lower than what the amp is rated for. So if your amp can handle a 2 ohm load, make sure you don't wire the speakers lower than that.

What kind of amp is it?

Using a cell phone while adding gasoline to your car might cause it to explode....adding 2 more subs of different impedance won't, although it might confuse your amp, irritate your alternator and take up more space without doing much for the total output level.....:dunno: :laugh:

I'm curious why you're considering adding 2 more different subs in the first place.....if you need more volume there are other ways to do that....telling us what you have (model #s for current subs, box size and type, amp model) running now will make it easier to help you achieve your goals.....:smokin:
