Would this work?

I have an 03 Cav Z24 just got it back on the road after 7 months... front speakers being stockers of course suck... I want to put my Kicker K65.2 components in there.. I tried moddying the original 4*6 adapter to some how fit the original but looked like ass... So I have 1" mdf kicking around and made an adapter outa of that, then I plan to spray it down with like a rocker gauard or sorts to prevent moisture from destroying it... for anyone that's done any of these cars do you think there will be any clearance issues from the insideof the door to the door skin? I will try and post a pic so u know what my plan is ... of course they always seem like well thought plans till I attempt to do it lol

Thanks

Doug use 3/4" mdf and resin it. I have a template made for these cars actually.

I have 3/4" as well but my concerin is the depth of the magnet on the Kicker speaker hitting my window... here the 1" mdf holds it roughbly same high as the stock speaker... Now wether I use resin or this rocker guard stuff would be same idea would it not?... I have to see if I have 3/4" kicking around....

Thanks for the suggestion.. Don't suppose you have a pic of one you;'ve done?

Thanks

When I take some pics of the Jeep I'm working on I'll see if I can slide in a pic of the template that I have. You might be able to space the window track back for extra clearance as well.

Sounds good... yeah if it's nice this weekend I might mess around with it more... I more so wanna see if my "template" I am trying to make is along the same idea or if I am way out in left field lol

Much appreciate!!

In my old 97 cavalier, i had to put 1-1/2" spacer behind the door panel and cut the door panel out for my 6.5" JL's. they worked well with the 5-1/4" eclipse 3 way.

So here's the template I had done up...Only concern is clearance... I have 1" mdf and 1/4" no 3/4 so I might have to double up the mdf if the magnet doesn't cear the window... yeah the center hole is abit shitty cut since I didn't have any small scissors lol...I had to use a steak knife lol

You can get ready made adaptors from Metra. However not all 6 1/5 speakers are alike and in my experience you have to try different ones to see which will fit. But making one out of MDF is a fine way, and will be much more solid.

However, my BIG concern is that you want to protect the wood against moisture. If things will get so wet that you want to protect the MDF, imagine what the water will do for your speakers!!! Forget the rocker panel stuff. Use some sort of plastic sheet behind the speaker to prevent water from dripping down on it.

Why make the edges so thin? MDF is not all that strong. Screws will easily strip the wood. You may want to try some plywood instead.

Yeah I plan to protect the wood with something, my other car I had used mdf as well and didn't have issues with water or anything but still gonna get something to protect this... and I plan to pre-dill the holes so it doesn't strip... the 6.5" speakers aren't that heavy so not to concerned there... IN regards to the "pre-made" adapters yeah I tried them already with my kickers and I couldn't find 1 pair that actually fit without me modifying them.... like I said this i just testing to see if it will work if there's issue with the wood thickness or screws just cracking the wood then I will go thicker or another route all together, I am off work sick today so keeps me busy :)
