So does Mattel have a warehouse somewhere to store the vehicles? does mattel eventually sell off the ones with a VIN.... or do the manufacturers ever produce demo cars with a VIN?

If I'm not mistaken, the M3 was Steve Brown's personal car.
That's perhaps why it can be sold as it was not a "true" manufacturer sponsored demo car.

That's true, it was his personal car, he even drove it to CES himself. I think it has already been sold once though, so I don't believe this is his ebay sale.
Very cool car though, would love to have it, anybody want to buy it for me????
